I bought a Logrite hookaroon and really dislike the tip. It's ground to a sharp point and slips out of the rounds too easily. Great if you're just emptying a truck or trailer bed and need to reach the ones in the back, but useless for everything else. I may regrind the tip to grip better.

I use this for 95% of my firewood handling:

I have tried nearly everything on the market, every gimmick, even the LogOX, and I always return to my trusty pulp hook.

I recently purchased the pulp hook shown above , I do like it but have to say that the finish was terrible. Works good but looks like they were painted by a blind preschooler. There is almost as much with no paint as there is with paint.

Also have a logrite pickaroon that I use a lot. They did update their point to a new style that works better than the old style that was just round and sharpened to a point .

I just replaced the tips in two of my LogRites with the new style. Took the old tip and made an extended reach, 6' footer for unloading the truck. 0126201709.jpg 0126201710.jpg

Have the Stihl version. Invaluable for moving rounds to the splitter without a lot of bending. Can get leverage to "flip" the goofy ones to the splitter and can roll the round rounds like a dancer to the splitter. Any tool that helps me from bending and then lifting is a good thing at this point in my life.

Nothing a can of spray paint can't fix. All my woods tools are some garish combination of bright blue, orange, yellow, red or lime green, sometimes all on the same tool. If I lose something, I've done it on purpose.

It's OK, haven't used it a lot. I am currently getting free ash logs from the golf course cut to 8' 4" and loaded in my 18' trailer with 10,000# capacity maxed out. Pretty easy, drive up, get loaded and drive back to the stacks. This is what it looks like loaded. 10-31-19 1.JPG 10-31-19 2.JPG 10-31-19 3.JPG 10-31-19 4.JPG

    That's a good thing!

I just changed the pick in mine but have not used enough to give it an honest review. Hopefully soon.

I bought the Fiskars about a year ago. Picked up large, >18” green hickory, those take both hands, but the tool handles it.
The thing that got it was a 10” piece of old locust. The tip snapped off as soon as I hit it, too hard I suppose. I filled out the warranty info that evening and about 5 days later had a brand new one on the porch. One of my favorite tools ever.

The Kids got me a Madsen’s Hat and Gift Certificates for Christmas,

    71A1BBFB-6E57-4E1A-A545-E956CF938CA4.jpeg

I used the Gift Certificates for a 28” Fiskars Hookaroon. I just got a chance to use it a week ago, I Really like it

I earned a $25 Amazon Gift Certificate at work, I like the 28” Fiskars so well, that I ordered the 12” Fiskars yesterday, and it cost me less than $3 out of pocket :D, looking forward to trying it out too

So far, I have been very Impressed with the Fiskars tools I have

I made a pickaroon for a friend of mine. I cut it out of an old barn find council head. I just ordered the wood mizer pickaroon and a 48 inch peavy for myself.

Looks very familiar. I also have a 48" woodmizer can't hook. Very much pleased with both.

Plan to make a camp ax or boys ax out of the rest of the head.

Saw this one at Menards last week.
    IMG_20200406_155720088.jpg

I've been using an antique one I rehandled. Saw the head listed as an antique miners pick on Craigslist. Since it was "worn down" I got it real cheap. IMG_20191031_073155649.jpg

I have another one I cut from an axe head I found at the scrap yard for a dollar. Buddy is rehandling it.
