They even poke themselves... LOL Thorn inside.jpg

Dropping them directly onto piles when possible.
    2 Drop em on piles.jpg

    A couple of HL dropped
    20 inch HL.jpg

Everything gets skidded out to a clean area for processing. About half of the trees in this area were HL, but there was a large variety of species.
    maybe 3 cord.jpg

HL lumber gets used for outdoor stuff like the headache rack to save the back window, the tire holder, light bar mount, and sideboards. Nuthin fancy but lasts a little longer than maple...

This one definitly needs a trim. It's in the drying stacks.
    Walnut clearing has Locust.jpg

These are hickory boring beetles that attack weak or damaged trees and firewood while there is still high moisture content. They don't bug the wood much after the first summer of drying. I'm not sure of their range, but they sure are prolific in our area.

I have found that the HL I have stacked outside on pallets fully exposed to the elements :full sun, wind, rain, etc. the powder/boring beetles didn’t seem to bother. On the other end of the spectrum the HL I stacked in an old wooden corn crib that I thought would make a good wood shed the powder beetles did all kinds of damage & it was a nasty mess to load it out, goggles, face mask & long sleeves.

We get the same borer here. They make a heck of a mess. I’ve been css and putting in my barn for a year. Then move outside and they don’t bother it. I give it 3 years to dry. I have about 5 cord css

This is all awesome tips you guys! Im gonna try and tackle some of it. The landowner has a skid with a cutter on the front. She cuts em down and piles them. I come in and take the trunks so it works great! Just gotta get the dang thorns off.

Pretty decent size trees. These are just the pictures from what the owner sent me prior to me going to look at it.

In response to my wood id post it seems that I have scored some honey locust.

It looks just like what is pictured in this thread and luckily for me it appears to be thornless. I'm going to have to go back to the dump and get the rest of it!!!

HL is some nice stuff. Awesome find there LOTF! Comparable to BL IMO. Last year was the first time i scrounged it. Very common yard planting. Grab all the straight stuff. Splits like a dream too.
Id love to score more. Have a cord CSS and a bunch of skinny limbs to buck up yet.

I have yet to burn any HL. My reference was to density and processing qualities.

I survived a full season with HL, it's worth the misery (thorns).
