    What about a cheap and cheerful with a decent chain on it? If he decides he is going to to buy firewood he isn't out a lot o dough and still has something to clear the crap he hits while mowing the lawn. If he decides to cut, he his going to want more saw and can use the cheapie as a backup. I might not put it in my profile but I've got one in the barn at camp and it gets used every year.

    As SolarandWood says - +1 on getting a "learner saw" since neighbor has never had a saw. 42cc Poulan refurb for $75 at vminnovations. Open up the muffler and tune richer. 91VXL chain. Non Ethanol gas. It becomes the little saw when neighbor wants to step up.
