If you can get the 40% off coupon it makes the 10lb block of wax reasonable in price.

Yes, I pulled it up on my iPhone and they scanned it on my phone.

Please post a pic sometime of your fire build with the firestarter. I’m intrigued by the idea. I also have at least a full season of dry kindling and newspaper so no hurry

Here are some nice summaries regarding top down fires:
    https://mffire.com/wood-stove-101-perfect-way-build-fire-top/

Frankly I’m not using these fire starters in my Cubic Mini Grizzly wood stove as they're kinda overkill for that. A quarter of a Supercedar with a small amount of kindling is usually adequate for that tiny stove.

I made these firestarters for a full size stove we’re currently installing in our wood working shop. The installation isn’t done yet but as soon as it is I’ll post some photos.

Man, I never use a 1/4...even with a full size stove, just a small piece (maybe 1/16?) almost always does the job...

Thanks Brian. I build top down fires in my stoves too. Do you place the fire starter directly on top of your pile? That’s the photo I’m looking for, placement of the fire starter.

I think I’ll give Supercedars a try as well. If 1/4 will get the job done that may be the way to go.

Right now I’m burning some fairly large splits of barkless ash. Occasionally it fails to light top down because the newspaper burns too quickly. I’d love to just build the stack and light a firestarter without additional kindling or paper.

I think full size splits are a bit harder to light top down without any kindling. When I use these home made fire starters I was building a traditional bottom up fire without kindling. So now that I think of it, I’m not in a place to say whether they’ll start a top down fire without kindling.

Picked up some fat wood and Rutland fire starters while I was out today. If we ever get the swag shop up I’d like to buy some FHC Supercedars.

Here’s a top down getting started with a Rutland and a couple scraps of kindling. Neighbor’s brother owns a wood shop

Lol I really had to take a second look. I can see the reflection of the window in the glass.

Do you mean to tell me that the firebox isn't decorated? :headbang:

You’re seeing through. Masonry heater is freestanding with doors on two sides.

Supercedars is a member here, you might be able to order them from him.

I sent an email to [email protected] to see if they sell the FHC branded starters from their site. I'll check back here when Thomas replies.
