Homemade fire starters...on the cheap.

Got me thinking...and not of fire starters either!

YUP!

 

I know these are old posts, but somehow i got back here then remembered that a couple months ago i was cleaning out my bandsaw and found a nice mess of candle wax inside the cabinet from cutting a couple candles down to fit in the crock pot.
*Note to self*
Don't cut candles down on bandsaw anymore.

 

Heat up a junk knife blade? May work....if it has a wood handle!

 

Update; there have been no heart stopping moments or helicopter rides in 4.5 years.

I tried to figure out just wth i was talking about and can't do it!

 

Every year I have a yard full of pine cones. When they turn brown and open up on the ground they are loaded with pitch. Throw a half dozen in the stove, light them and away you go, Bob's your uncle. No muss, no fuss and they are free. Takes about 15 minutes to load 3- 5 gallon buckets which last the whole burn season.

 

That's scary

 

I have used those when I had the cottage. Don't last too very long but man, they take off!

That's right! Everything seems so much more expensive than it was back in 2020. I wonder just what happened?

Update
I tried the Dixie 3oz bathroom cups.
They are my favorite cups so far.
I tear the cup a little and it lights really easy.

The El Cheapo thin cupcake papers are so thin that occasionally the paper will burn the whole way around the cup top and not get the wax started when lit with a lighter.

If you use a torch to light them, it gets the wax burning in a couple seconds.

 

My experience exactly. Except I don’t usually have a torch at hand, just a lighter.

 

Anymore Chaz keeps it couple tin cans in the barn and when he sweeps up puts it in there.
Come burning time, brings a can to front porch. Then a 5 gal bucket.

 

So far, we've had excellent success with the egg carton and pine noodles, well waxed.
The last batch of wax I picked up at the dollar store was scented. Now we have a hundred or two scented firestarters.
The only ones that don't work, are the ones I cheap out on wax on.
Otherwise, one match all the time.
