Holz Hausen FAIL

    They build surprisingly fast. As I said, my wife builds them alone (she finds it therapeutic, and that absolutely works for me) and can build one in about 3-4 hours. They are 8' in diameter, with one outer row of stacked splits, about 6' tall and the center is just wood thrown in.... in other words, a confined pile of firewood sitting on pallets. They blow out in 2-3 months, so she rebuilds each one about 3-4 times per year (sad but true). It takes far longer to build one that has toppled because 1) you have to take apart most of what is left on the original and move it away from the hauzen and then 2) move it all back and re-build a hauzen.

    Once they reach a height just over the builder's head, things really slow down because all the wood has to be tossed on top of the hauzen, and then the builder has to climb up and climb all around the loose splits to stack it. A little dangerous and very slow. It is much faster to build three hauzens 6' tall than two hauzens 9' tall.

    It's a great excuse to get outside and spend some quiet time alone...I have 3 boys under 6, so ANY quiet time is very welcome

    Also: they look cool af.

    I'm afraid if I made a HH that I'd never burn it. It would just be to cool to tear down...:rofl: :lol:
