For the sheer BOLDNESS of that statement, you deserve a ceremonial Beer Emoticon.

I kinda expected a dozen or so comments from folks as to how I am wrong, full of chit, etc.....maybe tomorrow while folks sleep on it.....
You can drink that beer.....Ill take a good strong black coffee!

I hear you guys. This is my first year owning the stove. I was told by a couple people here that our environment wasn't as harsh as you fellers back east. I agree I should have played it more safe. I really thought I could get through the season. Meh. I'll report what the tech has to say.

Lousy, I like this thought. I don't know if it it's true in my case but it's very plausible. I'm going to give you a mic drop anyway.

Well, that is true - we are a harsher environment. I go thru a bit over 5 tons per year between the two stoves and I do a good exhaust path cleaning several times during the burn season on the P61a. Course I burn chitty pellets in that stove and it also burns 3.5 to 4 tons of the pellets I use, so it needs more frequent exhaust cleaning than the P43.

I am on my 5 th Ton this season too. Our P61a in the basement handles the house fine and the Harman Advance with the upgraded burn pot takes care of the workshop. Even though the workshop is fully insulated, being under an open deck it was 55 Deg this morning since it was 36 Deg Out. The workshop Advance was off all night so I start it with my iPhone while eating breakfast so it will be warm when my technician arrives. She will be here at 9am.
The P61a in the garage I only used a few times when it gets real cold same as the Quad Santa FE in the shed. Still working on that old St Croix Prescott EXL. Took a break yesterday and picked up a Cambridge Soundworks Center Stage - Center Channel speaker and a Boston Accoustics powered subwoofer for the workshop!! :). Now I just need to buy a radio that decodes Dolby ATMOS cheap?? I did not put in 2 Dual Electronics Height speakers for 3D sound for nothing. :)
Would the new Marantz SR-7012 networking receiver with the HEOS standard be adaquate??

Exactly the same here B. 3.5 -4 in the P68 and just under a ton in the P43

dotman17 why don’t you clean your own flue? Is it a complicated setup? Just curious.

3 1/2 tons is 3 1/2 tons anyway you slice it. IMO, way more than I would burn w/o a good exhaust path cleaning.

No particular reason. First year I wanted the installer guy to come out and make any adjustments I guess and tell me what I needed. I suspect I will get into that this upcoming year.

I cleaned the exhaust real well. In fact my stove side is darn tootin' good. I, ahem, just took some questionable advice from my installer. But I don't think he realized the extent I was going to use it. Whatever. Great lesson learned. My green is showing. <wink>

I plan on burning half as much next year now with wood stove and will clean it (the flue) myself.

Oh and without that service kit... I could not clean it or flue myself.

Bring me up to speed please, did a service tech come out since the liquid goo? Do you have smoke and CO detectors in good working order in your home?

Tech comes out next week. Neither detector 'detected' anything. I'll be sure to update you guys. But now that I've discovered I have a flue full of chit, I've more or less resolved myself to that being the issue. But the auger has been making a lot of funny noises lately.

The other reason is I have the insert and until recently when I bought the rail kit, it was a biotch to get to. Basically inaccessible w/o it. But now that I have ponied up for that pricy little gem, I can start doing it myself.

When your chimney sweep comes out, watch how he does it and then you should be able to tackle it yourself. An ash vac and lint eater with proper size brush and enough extensions to run the length of your flue is really all it takes. Or some prefer the LBT method too.

Thanks. I have the ash vac and my friend has the brush+extensions. It seems pretty easy. Bag at the bottom and brush from the top. A lot of YouTube vids on it.

But I am not too proud to ask for advice.
