Holey tree

    Cut a dry leaner that was hanging way over my trail. Figured I would take this elm down before it landed on my head one day. I can't believe a tree this holey was still standing, complete with mushrooms growing inside the trunk.

    Right where I want to be.
    I recently took down a Red Maple that was hollow, but not that bad, and there were mushrooms growing in the rot.....inside the tree.
    Crazy stuff.

    I had a kickback situation with one like that. The tree was 36" across when I was cutting it with a 24" bar. The tip of the bar just nicked the inside of the tree, and wam! Luckily I wasn't at full throttle or id be in some serious trouble!

    Cutting dead trees, especially leaners, is never a good time. I GTFO as soon as this one started to move. Luckily it came down without to much excitement.

    Yeah, that could have gone real bad. I cut a 20" or so oak last year that looked perfectly healthy. Ended up being a rotten mess inside.
