A small aluminumor lighter weight steel pass thru gravity/cable one would be really ideal. Would need 2 hydraulic winches and 1 main mast cylinder. And a swing cylinder. Camp Inspector has posted pics of bic snorkle log loaders. Used to be all the log shovels on the west coast were line/cable . Like a Bucyrus 30 B . Which can also be a crane if a different boom is put on . A modern small hydraulic log loader on a small forwarding trailer. And a dump flatbed on my pick up would be really Great. The cost of one is prohibitive tho.
Got out another cord today for 1 customer and about 1/4 cord of rat tails and uglies/chunkys for an old timer that does his cutting with a bow saw.
Another cord today. Got a late start so didn't have time to add to the old timers hoard. Just beat the road going soft coming down the hill coming out of the woods/burn.
I've been averaging 4 cord a week delivered. I haven't been taking many pics lately. This is today's load 225 cubic feet. Took me 3 hours to measure and buck and load and lash then drive down to the mainline.
I'm hoping the spur road will be froze in the morning so that will probably be my last load till dry up gets here. We have a bunch of different seasons here. Early winter =freeze up. Winter = Winter . Late winter = sunny but still frozen. Break up = when the ice and snow go. Dry up = well, when it's dry enough to plow fields for planting. Then summer , which has 3 parts to it. But it goes by so fast it's tough to quantify. Then Fall. It would be wonderful if I can get back to the tops decks in a month.
I’ll probably never live where you live, but I find your posts informative and insightful. Thank you.
Today was my last day for the winter season. I put 1,5 cord on the truck in 2 hours 15 minutes . Put 1 strap on tight and skedaddled down to the mainline. I couldn't work yesterday because my knee was really giving me the business. I did not get a pic of today's load. I actually delivered the half cord to my house. Wife had told me I better bring some wood home if I wanted her to keep cooking here
I tallied up this season's wood I delivered. It came to right at 25 cord. Which includes wood I brought home for our heat. That's better than I thought I would or could do. I'm also pleased with the wood rack I made it held up extremely well. It has been on for around 30 cord so far and has well paid for itself. The back window of the pickup is still in 1 piece , and I wasn't all that careful when throwing poles in.
