Historic grist mill needs white oak shaft

    Just looking at the old shaft it was done with axe's and chisels some craftsmanship !!! it will be tough to find someone with those skills today I am sure there is machines to do it faster and better but I am always amazed how things were done without the machines we have today JB

    This same thought crosses my mind quite often.

    I don't do big cities that often but when I do I am amazed at some of the old structures that were also built long before modern machines existed , a perfect example is some of the old churches. The stone work is amazing and all done by hand.

    It’s amazing what folks did by hand back in the day. I spend time in the woods in VT thinking about how most of the state was farm land back in the day; and all the old growth was cut by hand. And then there’s the miles of stone walls….

    History is fascinating.
