Great picture Dave! It was an absolutely beautiful day yesterday for a hike. The hounds are looking good!
Thanks so much for those really wonderful pics Dave, That is really Gods country! And I know the hounds love it also!
Some pics from a couple of recent fall hikes, the foliage had been spectacular this year, just doesn't come through in the pictures some times.
Come...sit...wait, I have to line them up and face them the way I want, no "picture" command. I think they know it's coming sometimes though. We practice the "wait" command a lot, at every feeding, at every door, in or out of the truck etc. Bailey, the little Jack-Beagle has a thing about crossing bridges, used to be really bad, she wouldn't even do planks at ground level, used to have to carry her over bridges. We've been working on it a lot as it can sometimes create a problem for me. This was a success. Today she got quilled, not too bad, but she is pizzed about getting them out.
Love love love those pictures. particularly the one with the bridges. Nice contrast with the background. Sorry about the one with the PQP quills. Did you mention she has JR in her? I JR's are not capable of leaving something alone. My daughter has a JR and he is hell on legs. Very loveable, but he has no concept of his size or limitations.
Ugggg, quills! No vet this time i hope! Ive seen first hand Dave's hounds are the cat's meow when it comes to being trained.
No Vet for the quills, had to wait for reinforcements to come home for some help, she wised up after the first couple and I could not hold her still enough and man the pliers. All good now. Yes Jack-beagle, she is the biggest challenge for training, she will test you every chance. The big hounds can be tough to get their attention when they are distracted, but once you have their attention they mind well.
Do I see a Walker and a Redbone hound? Good looking family of dogs there. Great pics and thanks for sharing them.
Winter finally arrived here this week, makes me nervous getting into the back country with 5 Hounds so we stuck close to the house. Whose idea was this? A little deep in spots. Some glacial erratics in the woods near here, a "family" of three pretty huge ones. Nappin party on the couch after.
Looking great! The smaller pups always want to follow the big ones, can lead to "disappearing" in the white stuff. Despite some trails i keep open for Saucy...... he can barely jump through the deep chit.
I enjoy your pics Dave, good job! Last year I started coyote hunting with guys running GPS's on the hounds. After being around the hounds I have tremendous respect for your ability to get pics of them. They are so independent, getting them to do anything together has to be a challenge and indicates the amount of time you have spent with them.
He seems to be really tuned in to being able to communicate with his hounds. I just can't figure out why they follow him on all those adventures into the woods when he always comes home empty handed. They must think he stinks at hunting. But at least they get to go out and explore which is their dominant natural instinct.
Spring Summer Fall Winter The winter bridge pic is from today. There is about 3 feet of snow in the woods. Oliver was worn out from the 2 mile hike in to the bridge, his head is down in the snow. My trail breaking crew The creek the bridge goes over Lotta snow on the trees Good day, a lot of work, 5 miles on snowshoes, Hounds are passed out.
