Well after reading this whole thread I know one more thing to add to my part list for the new NC30. I know everyone is busy but would love to see some pictures and possible setup instructions. Glad everyone is safe and seems to be quick to jump on something as simple and life saving as this!

I'll post a picture when I get home. Mine was a simple set up, drilled a hole for the probe in the stack and mounted it next to the stone wall. I really like the digital readout for temps. I can sit anywhere in the living room and see the temps.

Really grainy but here's mine. This is right after a reload from a cold stove.

Now I need to think of a good way to conceal the wires a little or maybe I can just run it down low on the hearth

Yeah ,you can get different lengths of cable.
My set up probably looks worse cuz I had to hook the wires up outa the way , my cat goes behind the stove some times so I don't want him getting hung up on em and tearing stuff up.
    I'm most concerned about functionality

Ok, I was sitting right here yesterday, Stove was cold, and the meter fell right on the floor.:startled:
The little metal piece is just a stick on deal on the back and it came loose.
No damage the meter still works fine, I am glad of that these things are not cheap, but I did not want that to happen again so, I fixed both of them.
Took the back off to see what I could do, found a couple little screws drilled a hole through the metal and the plastic and put the screw in, there is plenty of room inside for the protruding screw. The screws I used were 3/8" long.
No more meters, falling on the floor:)

swags S. Roche If you used that little metal stick on piece, you might want to do this to yours

Mine fell off the wall a few times too, I'll be making it more permanent this year before burning season.

Thanks for posting about this and taking the time for the great photos. I plan to buy one for next year and will heed this advice.

I said I would order one of these alarms before the next burning season and now its time to stop procrastinating!

Although at this rate it's hard to imagine burning season is close, it was nearly 90F the past couple days in late September!

How is the probe working on the single wall?

I'm ordering the wireless unit but trying to decide on the type of sensor. I was thinking of getting the washer one and putting it on my flue damper inside my SW pipe, but I wanted to hear how this was working out for you.

I'd like to run a stove top sensor as well as as a flue sensor and they say the wireless master unit can take input from multiple slave units, but I don't see where you can buy additional slave units?

I really like it, works real well, no lag time, the magnetic thermometer can take as much as 10 minutes to get up to actual temperature of the outside of the pipe.
The best feature is the alarm. That will go off at the gets too hot at a preset temp.
But I also like the fact that I can see across the room exactly what the Stove is doing, pipe and stove top
I'm not sure where you read about multiple slave units but if you want to monitor your pipe and your stovetop you have to buy two units there's only one plug on each unit for the probe of your choice.

You do have to remember to take the Probe out before you sweep the pipe:headbang:
I just straightened it out and all is good though

    Thanks.

The multiple slave units is for the wireless version.

Just to be clear the high temp for the alarm is programmed by the user, not preset

oh yes that's right they are, someone here has the wireless setup, I think they're in this thread to,. Smokinpiney
Not absolutely sure but I think the slave units are only monitors, so you can see the temperature in another room.
Edit,, yeah you would need 2 master units to monitor the pipe and stove top, each master unit can have multiple slave units.
Slave units are basically Wireless receivers

    • Model: AT210-COMBO
    1. Features
The AT210 wireless digital thermometer can be used for remote temperature monitoring.
It consists of two units: AT210-A (slave unit) and AT210-B (master unit). The slave unit
connects to the temperature sensor and displays measured value. It also sends the
measured temperature reading to the master unit and allow remote monitoring and
remote parameter setting through wireless connections. The master unit can
communicate with up to 10 slave units. The AT210 thermometer have two alarm settings
for a built-in buzzer. One can be used for high limit alarm and the other can be used for
low fuel (limit) alarm. This thermometer can also store the highest temperature reading
with a time stamp during the temperature monitoring process. The slave unit has a
12VDC 2.5mm power output that is synchronized with the build-in alarm buzzer, which
can be used to drive an external buzzer or other devices. Both units are powered by
12VDC through an 2.1mm AC adapter for continuous operation. It can also be powered
    by a car battery directly.

If you had a cat stove this would be a good idea too, one for the stove pipe, one for the top and one for the cat unit. three of them to make sure stuff don't get too crazy.

If you had a woodstock PH, it would be a good idea. :)

I have a PH and find it extremely hard to overfire. The Fireview or Palladian would be better canidates IMO for an alarm but any stove could benefit. It's the startup/reload that you really have to watch out for on the FV and Palladian - the bypass open position is straight up the flue and gets the stove hot FAST.
