    Well yes,
This is my automatic air controller, it uses a temp controller and timer to actuate a HVAC damper actuator.
It works quite well but is somewhat limited as to what it can do, it will only close the air control based on flue temp.
When the flue temp reaches 875* the temp controller (on right) and timer will turn on the damper actuator for 4 sec, this will close the air control about 1/2 in. It will then wait for 20 sec, and if the temp is still over 875* it will close the air another 1/2 in, the cycle will continue until the temp is under 875*
Also the stove top controller( on left) will turn on the blower when the stove top temp reaches 675*
Here are some pics and a vid.

Without getting to fancy what about a tea kettle with a whistle in the spout. Just put a little bit of water in it. I would think it if sat directly on the stove, and it being thin metal, it would steam before the stove melted down.

After seeing the Auberins unit I thought it was worth a try. I purchased the package consisting of display, magnetic thermocouple and alarm. It does what its advertised to do. The alarm is similar to a smoke alarm only a bit louder. I also have a Condar and IR just to double check its accuracy and its within 10 degrees of the IR and about 25 of the Condar so I have removed the Condar. Yes the magnetic thermocouple and cable were noticable but after a light coating of stove paint it blends in nicely with the insert and surround. I am not trying to promote this unit but it is working for me. $100 well spent for more piece of mind when reloading. Thanks for the heads up.

Are you able to post a picture or two? You got everything you needed for around $ 65 bucks?

I think im going to order their wireless package to replace the old digital readout i have in the bedroom. Since the thermocouple wire is already ran to the bedroom i can put the sending unit there and the remote wireless unit in the living room. Save me a trip or two to the bedroom to see the temps. Might make me a bit lazy though since i wont have to get off the couch :smoke:

I usually leave the door open about 1/2-3/4" on a reload and set the air about where it needs to be. When the fire really gets going and the draft starts pulling it sucks the door shut and the fire box calms down. Then I latch the door and engage the cat and go back to what i was doing.
I am usually sitting in a chair right in front of the stove during this process.
On a cold or less than ideal restart I might open the door 1 or 2 more times to get the fire going .
I try to never walk away from the stove while i'm tending the fire but like others have said , it happens.

Forgot to mention, no pictures yet. It is laying on the mantle with all of the wiring exposed. I am going to build a small box to enclose the unit and wiring. When finished I will put up a couple.

I built one similar, but yours looks much better done. I have a single temperature controller which is currently used stove-top, but could also be used as a flu probe. I thought my controller had two different alarms, one to control a built-in outlet and one for an audible alarm (smoke detector alarm) at a higher setpoint. However, I found out I have the one alarm setpoint, so I built it so I can turn the audible alarm on/off and just rely on the fan to moderate the temperature a bit. Obviously the audible alarm would be more helpful in a falling asleep situation.

Well Seasoned, I'm so glad it never got more serious & nothing was damaged. That's scary stuff.
