Awesome score! Make sure to save some for the smoker. Last time I cut hickory I rocked a chain. It was on a steep hillside and the place was full of bees that got pretty ornery with the saw running. Took my eyes off the prize for just a second and zzzziiipp - run the nose right into a stone. So, yep - hickory can be brutal on chains.
Everything that everyone has said about hickory is true. But I say it's worth the effort. Nothing better. But hey old man if you have that many Ash to cut I would just cut Ash Chief
Today dead solid Red Oak. February 17, sun is shunning, 63 degrees, I'm retired. Just doesn't get any better than that tried to upload pics but wouldn't let me. I'll keep trying. Chief
It may have been even slightly warmer here today tfdchief . I had a lot of small branches in the 3 or 4 inch range built up in a pile so I broke out the 555 and went to town on them. At that size I had to tie them to the sawbuck or they would have tried to crawl out and come toward me. I did park the wheelbarrow under the end of the bundle each time I loaded the sawbuck so at least I only had to pick up second and third cutoffs, not the end one. Splitting is fun when they are that small. Just one whack and toss the splits into the wheelbarrow for stacking. The tire meant I didn't need to chase too many splits.
LP, I have s gold mine for sure. Scrounged everywhere most of my life, not having a place of my own to cut. But I think I'm set now, for a long time. Chief
Good for you Chief, I don't have my own woods to cut in but blessed to have access from one of the biggest farmers around the area.
Perfect weather for all those truck loads... All still coming from the same place? Getting any split yet Chief? Nice job!
I'm done. ALL stacks full! Even the the neighbor lady. Just finished a 12 ft x 4 ft stack for her. 1/2 cord. Red Oak and Hickory
I bet! The city doesn't offer many options. Hang in there. Hey you're FHC guy. You'll get er done. Chief
My property is loaded with hickory, great for the bbq and of course great in the stove. They can barber chair easy with the slightest lean. Squirrels everywhere they drop shells on me in the hammock all the time. Lol
