Welcome to the forum Loch Long. I see that Lucy is helping you which will be a good lesson for where heat comes from and what it takes to get some. How about the young man in your first post? Has he learned to use a splitting maul or a chain saw yet?

Welcome to the forum Loch Long

Nice work and nice workers. Like Turbodiesel, I've wondered what all types of wood you have available there. You answered with some familiar types. What else might you have?

One of our sons was in the US Navy on a submarine and went to a base there in Scotland. He said he liked it over there. Send back some nice things for his mother too. One thing for sure is something we don't find much of any more around here is a wool scarf. She loves that thing. It may outlast her! Very well made; like your shed.

Hope to read and see more of your world- do you have hobbies beyond your new found addiction to firewood and such?

    Hi Backwoods
That's the same base your son was posted, I met some nice people when I worked there. I manage to get some Beech from an old tree that was blown down about 5 years ago, also get Rowan, Cherry, Sycamore and Willow is common, although I don't go out my way for it .

Hello Loch Long and welcome to the forum! I went to Glasgow, Scotland on board the USS John F. Kennedy in 1976 and loved it! I will say it rained all day all 4 days though! Thinking a wood shelter is an absolute must over there.. Great intro and pictures!

Edit: Now that think about it I think it was Edinburgh that I went to..

Welcome to the hoard Loch Long . you live in a beautiful country.

Really? We've had 63 mph twice this winter. It's not common, but it happens.

Where I am 60 MPH winds are common and there are no trees to block the wind.
Welcome Long Loch. I did not read you have a moisture meter or I missed it somewhere. Very handy tool to have around.
Nice job on the wood shed. I would like to have one myself someday.

Im late to this party but thought I would say welcome Loch Long! Nice to meet you. :handshake:
I used to do lots of mountaineering and always wanted to go to your country and climb Ben Nevis which is famous for its mixed rock and ice climbing.

Welcome, have fun and stay warm.

I've not been to Scotland for a few years. I could really go for an Arbroath Smokie about now.

Thanks for the picture Loch Long. Wouldn't that be something if you had met my son? It would have been during the 80's when he was there.

Not at all familiar with Rowan wood. In fact, I've never heard of it. Googled it and found it is a mountain ash which can be a beautiful tree.

Again, it has to be sweet having those two young children helping. We had 2 sons and I really miss those times putting up firewood and other things with them.

Welcome Loch Long it looks like you have been lurking a while in the background. You got yourself all set up and ready to go. As you know by now, the secret is to get three years ahead, something I learned when I joined, just how important it is. Great pics of your helpers!
