Well, you'd probably have to have one heck of a compressor to have it work like you'd want it to. Air compresses, oil or other liquid doesn't. That's why hydraulics exist.

Probably means those air powered jacks like they use for big trucks and shops. I think there oil filled and the air displaces oil to lift?

Yeah, until we lift it up, I'll be buying or making a pickeroon to snag as many rounds as I can before having to get up from my seat next to the splitter. All that up and down crap kills your back.

I can't grab to many of the rounds I cut with any type of device. It take two hands for me to lift most rounds.

Yeah, it can be done. Hydros are just easier. The "springs" on my Audi are pneumatic, and they hold up a vehicle that weighs about 4000 lbs.

Most of my rounds are like that too, but I can still lift rounds with 2 hands from my seat.

20 ton Air Hydraulic Bottle Jack this jack
Though I also have the homelite 5 ton electric, it is faster than by hand, and splits 90% of what I need. I just got the 20 ton HF splitter, I don't think much is faster. I have my kids run the electric on small stuff while I run the predator.

I had one of those Manual HF 10 ton splitters ,but not long, they work but do take a bit of physical effort.
Busted up big elm rounds from a yard tree , yes it is slow but slow is better than not being able to split it all.
The one I had got to where it wouldn't return right so I just returned it
An electric splitter will do a lot more than some people think , just need to go at a round the same way you would hand splittin, attack the edges and read the grain .

To bad your so far away , @Brad38 I have a HF 7 ton I could sell ya, split all my wood for over 3 years with it , shipping would be a problem ,It weights 190 lbs.
HF doesn't carry them any more.
Some times you can find the 5 tons on CL for $100 $150

Nah that splitter you see in some of my pics is a buddies. I just get it when I need it.

Probably a waste of money. I like to have my own but I can use his when needed. I do enough stuff to help him I dont feel bad borrowing it. I also fix stuff on nit when needed.

The reason I would want my own is that I can use it whenever. Right now I dont want to get it 6 times a year so I pile rounds up and usually borrow it once or twice at most a year. Other times I split at his house as we cut together anyway.

And I split 1/3 of the stuff by hand though the year.

Hey, it's the thought that counts! Thanks, man. Glad I started this thread. I'll probably go for an electric one after all the hustle and bustle is over.
