My father is in for 3 days this time, the hernia and incision were bigger than the doctors anticipated. Well beyond 20 surgeries now. Atleast now after removing EVERY & ALL mesh repairs in his lifetime a year or so ago they are starting fresh with new mesh patches. I feel so bad for him, he is a fun happy guy and gets stir crazy being "captive" in the hospital.

Oh, and my geriatric doctor was the first one to take me seriously that I had a bump when I sneeze or cough or lift something and examined me. She said its an inguinal hernia, not too big and I could get an ultrasound etc, but since I've had it for so long (2011, birth or right after birth of my daughter- emergency c-section), that I can do a watch and see too. (all my previous docs convinced me it was from pregnancy and was muscle, not hernia).

In the past year I had my Gallbladder out and Hernia surgery. The Gallbladder was a walk in the park compared to the Hernia surgery. When they said I needed my Gallbladder out the surgeon said I had a hernia discovered on a scan 3 years ago. I want to ask my regular doctor why he juggles my peanuts every year and didn’t find the hernia? Is he just getting his jollies? :faint:

My father is still in the hospital. A couple complications including fever and congestion. I feel terrible for him. Then again I'm not sure his attitude helps, I spent 6 nights 7 days in hospital having lil one so yes, it got really old quickly for me too, but yikes for him, as well as I heard he's not exactly charming the nurses either. I reminded him of a silly toy we had in the early 80's that he got the biggest kick out of : A G Bear, teddy bear that would repeat what you said in a hoarse Mrs. Beasly/robot voice. (Sigh). Also I was on speaker phone, lil one chimed in about the last tooth she lost and atleast she got a lift out of his voice :)

Poor Dad. It's hard for older people to be managed by younger nurses and doctors. Nurses generally don't take to backtalk. A little flirting helps, up to a point. I worked in hospitals for awhile, and once had my tit squeezed while drawing an old guy's blood.

These days, any comment, worse yet, touching, will result in a disciplinary action or fired. I have been hit, kicked, bitten and called everything I can imagine. I worked with dementia client. Many are uninhibited by the nature of their illness. Where that behavior is anticipated, then staff would go in pairs. Much less apt to happen that way.

Hopefully he gets sprung from the pen tomorrow! Home health instead of rehab thanks to his wife. Ya, not doing well in a hospital setting so I'm glad home instead of rehab. Go Dad & his Wife! Tomorrow will be day 9 of what was expected to 3 days

But if you squeeze something, it helps pump more blood faster ;)

Do hernia belts work? I've had one since 2011 after having kiddo, was told I could watch, wait and see. It's not much bigger after all this time but it's been sore the last week (coughing/sneeze), I can't always get my hand down there to put pressure on it. No worries, guys, no fever, insides still functioning.
