Here we snow again..

Wow. And most of that has been launched through the "snow settling" machine first. Those piles would prolly be twice as high. Did you get a lot of wind down there too? Man... the 30-40 mph winds have been howling here since early this morning.

 

Anyone with a raised ranch with knee walls hasn't seen outside from the first floor for weeks.

 

Yep.. I can pretty much walk on it right now, in fact I did that a bit yesterday to try and knock the top down a bit. Its dangerous pulling out of the driveway, those piles are taller than both trucks its like living in a tunnel.


The wind here yesterday was crazy. This morning my entire back yard is covered in pine needles from the big tree. Luckily no branches down. No power problems anywhere around either, utilities got a lot better about tree trimming after all those ice storms years ago.

 

Yea there was an article in the Boston Globe about how Montreal does it. My 4 year old has this "mighty machines" DvD and one of htem is about snow in Montreal. Impressive is an understatement.

 

Lots of younger cities with well planned boulevards for streets use those humongous snowblowers.
I doubt if either the big blower or dumps could traverse Acorn Street in Boston.

When Atlanta had their once a century two inches of snow a while back they probably wish they had more sanders and plow equipment sitting around doing nothing for decades too.

 

True. But apparently back in the 60's Boston did have mobile snow melters.

 

Back in the late 90's Toronto called in the Army to deal with the effects of a blizzard and that was no where as bad as what Buffalo experienced before Christmas and what Maine is going through now. Toronto was the laughing stock of the rest of the country who deal with these conditions every winter.

 

Did they clear the off ramps?

Interesting graphic Doug. We just need that cold plunge to move back north.

I was at work for 5 hours outside clearing entry ways and checking critical equipment. The wind is still howling here and the drifts are crazy. There is an area at work that is like a bowl. The snow is almost swirled clear to the ground and the bowl walls have to be 8 feet high. I don't mind the cold, but the wind throwing snow in every direction was not fun.

This picture is a garage at work. The drift goes from the peak and must be at least 5-6 feet deep at ground level near the back.



Tomorrow we will be piecing down some giant icicles. I will probably be using my chainsaw as these are huge. They are only 8 feet tall, but pretty big in diameter.

I spent two more hours on the roof at home clearing them off. I will go out after dinner and clear all the pathways that I filled with roof snow.

 

No joy in that.

 

just finished up one of the worst driveways ever. the snow blower went down before I could get to MIL driveway. 2 storms piled on before I could run it again. the worst was 30+inch settled on her car. what a bear, NO MORE PLEASE

 

Still is as far as I'm concerned........................
