That's exactly the kind of information that needs to be pushed at the anti wood burning bunch. Not only them but the folks that really don't have a clue need to be informed too not just the for or against crowd.
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/10/101005-planes-pollution-deaths-science-environment/ How about this???
I know, lets blame the cows again! http://gizmodo.com/do-cow-farts-actually-contribute-to-global-warming-1562144730
Here is a good start for information. http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/for...-to-not-make-your-neighbours-your-enemies.11/ http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/resources/primer-on-woodburning-by-backwoods-savage.6/ On the burning of green or wet wood, I've seen it in some literature but sorry I don't remember which manufacturer. But I've heard many sales pitches on the OWB and every one of them really leaned hard on that point. It was to the point that they encouraged it. Duh....
According to article in the original post PAH's are part of the problem with wood smoke. Dig a little deeper. Do the nay Sayers own and operate a BBQ grill? http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/cooked-meats There are facts and stats that can be twisted to conform to any ones beliefs'. Next time he starts a grill up this summer, call the cops and complain about all the cancer causing fumes he might be exposing you to.
Good idea for many states in our country.......................but this is New Jersey!!! And I say that living in Illinois!!!
The problem all of face is that it only takes a few wood stove/fire place or yes even OWB's to ruin it. Whether you drive, ride your bike or walk down the road, the last thing anyone wants to see is a constant billowing of smoke from a chimney. We all know that you'll get some smoke when you add new wood, but that is only for a short time. The problem with this is that the person driving, riding or walking by is not there long enough to know that it was only for a short period. All they remember is seeing and smelling the smoke billowing from a chimney. If you are a neighbor, then you are around more frequently and will be calling out the person(s) that chimney billows smoke 24/7. Whereas if you are burning oil, propane or natural gas, they do not see any smoke. Unless the person does not maintain their furnace. This circles us back to the need for education on the behalf of non-wood burners as well educating the wood burners that just don't get it. Without that, I believe that wood burning as know and love it will go away in the near future. If you don't realize that is a possibility, all you need to do is search Google for stories like the one that started this thread. There are plenty with more being added on a regular basis. I like the idea of people creating accounts to refute these articles. However; not everyone can be bothered with reading comments. What is needed are articles in papers educating the populous on proper wood burning techniques along with supporting research that proves wood can be burned efficiently, safely and clean. This is the only way to combat the nay sayers. Jason
Everybody went to bed WW. Maybe today they are out shoveling snow?! I hear you are sending us some mighty cold air. You could keep it all; we're not greedy at all so you are very welcome to have all of the cold air. I'm ready for May weather.
