I understand the Allegheny National Forest is the biggest exporter of cherry in the world.
This is a pic while atv'ing there. Cherry as far as you can see.
Sadly, the last time we were there , there wasn't a cherry tree left at this intersection

That is technically black cherry, not the fruit tree. This cherry is pretty good firewood, dries fast, good BTU not quite as good as your oaks though. Here in PA we have lots of Cherry. It's beautiful for furniture making. I live in Western Pa. and the best Cherry on planet earth is just North of me maybe 70 or 80 miles. They grow like telephone poles 2' and 3' in diameter up there. It's just a great area for it. Combination of elevation, soil sitting right on top of sand rock, climate etc. I don't know why but it's just great up there. Wow! 3 ft diameter and straight, those trees would load a truck quick. So pa must be to cherry what northern ca is to redwoods. Other than elm there is not alot of hardwoods where i live.
