Which would with out a doubt sway the decision. 346 is a fantastic saw. Think hard on this, it's worth serious consideration.

First welcome A31unit, if you have a relationship with Husky buy the husky... a good dealer is worth a lot!

Your description says you live in Jersey.. Just thought I would mention there are members here in that area that do not scrounge they call local tree services and have wood delivered for free:bug:... I didn't believe it at first either but they posted pics so.. there you go...

    good luck with your decision..

I know it's been said that the difference between 545 vs 550xp is not worth $100.
How about $80?? I'm workin on my dealer and torn because he closed the gap on me a little more

I have a 2252 and a 550 . If you only had one of them with you, I don't think you would notice much difference. I run an 18" bar on them usually but I have used 20" bar on the 2252. If you are cutting wood<18" in diameter they are a good choice. I have no experience with a 291.

$80 ? Dang....now it's down to whether u like the all orange of the 545..or the grey highlights of the 550 ! The 550 does pizz rev higher...but in the cut...not a huge enough difference for me. Good thing abt an XP......is they are easier to sell..and command a higher price later on down the road ;)

I have a 555 and a 550XP. I like both of them a lot but to be honest the 550XP is a fantastic little saw and more than capable for 70% of anything I would need to cut. I picked up my 550XP used In good shape for $350 including shipping. I would much rather have a used 550XP than a 455 rancher, IMO.

Hmm, those 550s have had trouble with the gaskets on the transfers. A friend of mine just got one and is currently having issues with it. I'm glad you all have had luck with them. I know others who have not.

That 4 year warranty makes me feel warm and fuzzy about any potential problems.

My buddy's finding out just how difficult it is to cut wood with a warranty. The problem with the 550, as I understand it, the transfer gaskets aren't available. Then it becomes an issue of arguing with the dealer for a new saw. You learn pretty quick wheather you have a good dealer or not that way.

I'm wondering how big of a problem this actually is? I know a lot of people with 550XP's and none of them have had any issues at all and a lot of cords of wood have been cut.

It's not a big deal to get the transfers sealed up should there be an issue with the gasket. Multiple ways to skin that cat that don't involve a new saw, new cylinder, or more than a couple hours of downtime.

A31unit I would go for the extra $80 and take the 550XP. Especially if you're thinking you'd like an 18" bar instead of a 16". I generally prefer the shortest bar that is adequate for the job I'm up against but that decision is certainly up to your personal preference. Keep in mind that an 18" will only cut a tree that's 4" bigger than what a 16" will cut.

And if a MS261 was more saw than you needed, I wouldn't even consider the 291 over a 545 or 550.

Brian I agree. For guys handy with a wrench like you or me no problem. But for an average homeowner and a clueless dealer apparently not so much. Sometimes you don't know you have a stinker of a dealer until you have a problem.

I'm not sure how widespread a problem this is but air leaks from the factory are a known issue with the 550.

I'm not a brand slappy, and I havn't run a saw brand I didn't like at least a little bit. I'm not trying to bash huskies in general. Sorry if it read that way guys. I'm just highlighting the known issues with this particular model.

If there was a known issue with a saw, I know I would appreciate someone telling me there were troubles with it before I purchased. I would probably still buy, but it's nice to know what to keep and eye out for.

A31unit I hope I didn't put you off your purchase and wish you good luck with the saw!
