Woodstock has stoves that would do it (with floorplan obviously being a possible limiting factor...but same for any brand stove)

His heritage “will do it” but it’s obviously not adequate or easy.

The biggest 6” bk is the 2.9 cf princess which is what I use in my 1700sf home in western Washington. That’s the whole house, even the bathrooms if the doors are shut.

I’d really like to try the Woodstock IS which is 3.2 cubic feet on a 6” pipe. That stove seems like a hotter BK princess but unfortunately has a weird hearth insulation requirement.

This is a big house with no backup heat in a cold place. Formerly heated with a monster outdoor boiler so expectations are high.

I've toyed with the idea of moving this Heritage to the upstairs room which is a wide open game room (pool table, air hockey, couches and TV) finished in a rustic pine trim etc., so the Heritage would look nice up there. Then, the BK would just have to handle the downstairs and the Heritage could handle the upstairs.

Wait, what! A gun too big?! That's like saying I have too many guns or too much ammo. No such thing!

Currently, 6", but not opposed to installing 8" if needed.

Yes, unfortunately, buying the BK from a different dealer sticks me with the Heritage. The 75% exchange is only good with another stove from them. Unfortunately, they don't carry any of the BK or other mentioned lines.

No door to the upstairs, just a short hall and a corner to go around. So e heat will definitely make it up there, but basically, it's pretty chilly up there.

I was hoping there might be some wiggle room on the 8" requirement, but you definitely make me feel there isn't.

The dealer has the Hearthstone Mansfield I could trade up for. It has a 6" exhaust. I'm doubtful if it will handle what I'm asking as well as the BK would. The BK's just sound very solid.

That's what I wonder as well. The larger Hearthstone Mansfield is larger, but I just wonder if the burn time will still be very short.

    That sounds awesome!
No worries, we all have family, life, and work. We're all just excited about what you end up doing :)

PS, I asked our BK dealer about a Princess because members here love theirs. Q & A between eachother on where I live, wind and cold and my temp wishes, he agreed BK40 :) We are no strangers to cracking a window if it's too hot, not warm enough is a different deal!

I also wanted to put a king on a 6” pipe and BK was clear that it might work if I like the stench of creosote in my house. I guess the 6” doesn’t pull hard enough as it cools. That said, I have talked with people that did put a king on 6” pipe and were happy. I just can’t recommend an unapproved install. The king is a great stove though with a long history and solid reputation.

Well stated! I would much rather be too warm! Cold air from an open window is easy and cheap! I have already made one mistake, I really cannot and do not want to afford to make another one. "Too small" of a stove again cannot be an option.

I found this old picture of the wood stove I used to use to heat our house with 20 years ago. No idea of the make or model. If anyone has any idea of what it is, that'd be nice to know information. This wood stove could easily heat the house to 90 degrees on a 0 degree day. This kind of gives me me a starting point of what I should shoot for.

On a side note, this stove had an automatic thermostat on the back which was basically a small chain down to the draft door, connected to a coiled spring. As the spring would heat up, the spring would expand and the door would close. As it cooled the door would open. Very simple, extremely effective! Find the sweet spot that you liked your room temperature and the stove would take it from there to keep you comfy and warm.

    Possibly

If it comes down to money you could sure look at the Drolet, Osburn, Century branded stoves from parent company SBI. The large version in any of these would likely give you performance to rival your old stove. Much more efficiently and in a simple, reasonably priced package. A thought.
The Drolet stoves can be drop shipped at your home typically after being ordered online. Worth some research perhaps. Maybe you already have?

Basically the company store here...great to work with! And free shipping. (BTW, they have some large stoves on sale as cheap as $1250!)

I will look into American Eagle, just for fun. I bought this stove from a gentleman who had a cabin across the road from me when I was a kid. It was in his cabin for as long as I could remember. I'm guessing it was likely 50+ years old when I sold it and it still burned like a dream. One of the many stupid decisions I've made in life!:hair:

Never been on BK site before, but I see they have at least 4 large stoves that have 6" flues and are rated for 50k (or more) BTUs and up to 30 hrs or more burn time.
