Was your "shop" attached to your house?

Nope. My garage is detached and I am currently doubling it's size (3 car garage with an In-Law suite in the back of it/one bedroom, bath, kitchen, and living room). The garage is about 45' deep, but only 20' is garage.

With this last storm, we had some roof damage, that led to drywall damage in the apartment (In-Law suite). So I have finally decided to just make it a 6 car garage (3 cars wide, x 2 cars deep) with a full bathroom :) I am gonna leave a corner open and build a raised Hearth, for a large wood stove (looking for an old BK or Earth Stove)

Haven't used the apartment for anything and don't plan on it. I could always use the space, so the apartment goes and I essentially double my garage size by taking the wall down (non load bearing).

Sheesh. A building like that (with the apartment) would easily double my property taxes here. Which would put me over 8K a year. That is if I could fit it on my 1 acre lot.:p

I wonder if calling my attached garage a "shop" (which it is....) would help or hinder my cause?

My insurance company defines anything with a garage door a garage. My 30X50 shop has one 8X12 overhead door which gives me access to one stall with my lift. I close this off during the winter with a 10' wide sliding wood door.

Why close it off? Insulating purposes?

I have a 16'x8' overhead door, guess that makes it a garage eh? :D

I rarely have a running car in that stall during the winter. The ceiling is about 20' tall so I don't want to heat that side. If I do have something in there I need to work on I just slide the door open to the other side and use a small 30K propane forced air heater to help keep it warm.

Tell me about it Dave. God forbid someone want to get into shooting around here too. I think I could buy an airsoft pistol after a 30 day waiting period, but only if if holds less than 7 rounds.  :zip:

Krooser's latest "sleeper" for this years local short track (after the snow melts in July). Fairly obvious why he doesn't have a "running" car.

"OK, now what did I do with that engine I had under the kitchen table? Hey Maw!"

    Vote with your feet. :)
Young, multi-talented, good worker. You are in demand. Can get a job just about anywhere :)
Seattle area gearing up for the 777. (no state income tax)
N & S Dakota hiring, growing. Big climate & culture change though.

East coast slowly imitating Rome , & looking like Europe.

Big wood to cut in the PNW, bring the big bar.

I am so ready for a change of scenery, not just for political reasons either.

Unfortunately it's not just my feet that have to get to the polls. Would be difficult convincing the wife that it's time to leave NY, she doesn't want to be that far from her family. I tried taking her to the Midwest and the South, pretty sure she hated every minute of it. I personally wouldn't mind colder and snowier, I like the view y'all have up there. ;). But I know for sure she wouldn't follow me to Alaska, the Dakotas, or anywhere colder than here for that matter.

Typical....sleeping again. What you SHOULD be doing is filling that nitrous bottle attached to the radiator. Love the matched front tires.

I'll try this again since my last response got deleted but [IMG]that did not???

If you vote with your feet, remember, Alaska is slowly imitating China & looking like a communist state. ('permanent fund' -- collective ownership of industry and a guaranteed income)
