Something else to think about... with bar tread tires and front wheel assist (FWA)... When I ran a lawn care and snow removal company, At the ends of mowing season our dealer gave us a great deal on trading up for something the size your wanting, the tractors where to be hold over models once the new ones came out. We jumped on it, thinking they would be great for pushing snow, FWA, loaders, bar tires... they where awesome in the snow and tilling gardens in the spring, but once we started mowing, we hated them, the bar tires, extra weight of a loader and FWA tore up yards, and made customers un happy. we ended up trading one of them off for a yet bigger tractor and 72" deck, with turf tires, and bought a set of turf tires for the other. In pushing snow I never missed the bar tires, but in doing any dirt work, it was a must.

My point being is if you don't want your yard tore up, think twice about bar tires and FWA... then again, I don't know Kubota's, so maybe this size range doesn't have FWA?

The loaders on the BX's are easy to put on and take off quickly and you can choose between 2 and 4 wheel drive for less damage when needed. Myself, I prefer turf tires with chains for snow work on small equipment like this. Only experience I have with bar or ag tires is on much bigger stuff. All good points though.

There good rigs. Parts are getting to be a problem. Which is the problem. That size isn't a deutz motor so its liquid cooled.

I've got a pair of them. Ones a workhorse the other not so much. Sadly parts support from agco is terrible & if they have it there expensive. Leaves you searching for salvage parts.

It looks like the 5220 was built by hinomoto. Anyone know anything about them?

I don't play much in the compact tractor world.(don't like my knees hitting the steering wheel) But I think Bret is looking at the right color.

I'm really amazed at how high the prices are for these small tractors, WOW! I had no idea they cost that much, I assumed they would be $5k or so with a 25hp in it. Why such a big jump from a Garden tractor with a 15 hp motor for $1,200, to a 20 or 25hp to $10+ ? Are they that much more difficult and expensive to make?

Demand? IDK but I think those bx start at 12k or more and go from there! I want one myself, but I have a ford 1520 with loader although beat up still mechanically good.

The 4WD units are that much more stout. They have to be. The front axle on my lil JD is incredibly rugged. It easily supports the tractor behind it (and my fatazz too), and a load in front of it in the bucket... all pivoting in the air on those 2 front tires, every once in a while... maybe a ton total. I've now had my JD for 13 years and I'm still amazed at what it can do. The proof is usually in the CL list and other used equipment places. Very few for sale cause the owners never give em up. If they do, they trade em in on a bigger one.

They're built like little tanks. Cat 1 three point hitch and PTO both mid and rear. They hold their value for a long time as well if taken care of.

I found a few mid 70's Kubota B7100's that are still going for over $5000.

MMM are always up for sale on CL, pretty cheap too.

Tires/ wheels are "relatively" cheap if you want to change over ($1k or less.)

    FELs are NOT cheap!

Wait it out, good deals are out there but get scooped up quick. Seeing BX's at $10k used makes me happy if I ever sell mine. I paid $6k for a 500 hour B2100 with FEL and ags! I tried to offer $4500 with a straight face, but he was firm as he should be. Awesome little machine, not sure I could have invested that money any wiser. I've only got an acre and change, so the small size and width make for a very useful machine.

There are some big differences between a lawn mower and theses sub-compact, heavier chassis, better hydraulics, better transmissions, availability of 3 point hitch so on and so forth. There are many lawnmowers in the $10k+ range, most are pro models. But... they are over priced in my book, my wife's cousin has a John Deere 2520, mid mount mower, FEL, FWA, 3pt hitch, and rear tiller, along with a few other attachments. They have around $25k wrapped up in it... it is very nice, and great for small spaces. Here is my 2yr old enjoying it.

Much more tractor power can be had for same or less money, may not be as new. I believe the reason theses things are so high priced is the acreage owners are gobbling them up. Seams every acreage with a new house has one of these, and all the bells and whistles to go with it. I know my wife would love one, it is small enough that she isn't afraid of it. (I think that is the biggest selling point of them) I can't get her on our row crop tractors to save her soul.

I'm not referring to a "riding mower" (lawn mower). I'm referring to Garden tractors which are the next step up, like my old Wheelhorse. My wheelhorse has a front and rear PTO, a Hydro tranny, a hydro 3 point hitch on the back, and a hydro accessory lift on the front (lift plow, snow blower...). It can't lift anywhere close to the weight these other tractors can or anything... but MY point is it doesn't seem like there is that much more to these next step up tractors than my garden tractor, COST wise for the manufacturer. I probably need to look at one in person to really see the difference, weight, strength.... ;)

Speaking of this. If you like Kubota and are looking for a small tractor the construction grade TLB made by Kubota. The B21, and now the B26 are built like tanks to take a beating on construction work and keep on going. They are like my L35 only in a smaller package. Detachable backhoe to go to 3-point hitch. And with a quick attach made up for the front to go between bucket and forks. :dex:

    Here is one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/KUBOTA-B21-...686?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c4ea546be

For a little more money you can have a stronger, more capable machine.

I'd like to see what Wheelhorse would be making today... Grandpa swore by them, they are tanks. I'm sure they would be pricey as well.
