I'm really thinking about making an offer. The loader attachment is $2600. Maybe this makes me a poor negotiator but the ad says sale due to husbands heart failure. I'd love to get a great deal but.... I jut don't want to come across like a vulture trying to take advantage of the situation. Ok, no maybe about it. I'm not cut out for the art of the deal thing.

    Don't blame you there...

Being is sales, I hate hagglers.... do they negotiate the price of the gas you buy or the cold beer in your hand??? :headbang: I went into business to make money... not do things for cost... or less..... opps... sorry rants over.

I'm in the same boat as you... couldn't haggle on price in a situation like that.... but on the other hand, people say all sorts of things on Craigslist to get top dollar

Think bigger than the BX Bret. 500lbs is only under ideal circumstances. Load CENTER is directly under the pin (never happens) and the sun is shining. Put a set of forks on it and try to pick up a triplex carcass. You might get it a foot or two off the ground but getting it off a trailer will be frustrating.

Being on the other end, I hate sales reps! ;) On big deals, I've negotiated over 50% off the original quote price with nothing changed on the equipment. So they were just hoping to rip me off and hit a home run on commission.

I spend a good deal of my time negotiating with vendors, but mostly on larger deals (10's and 100's of thousands of dollars type stuff). If I didn't negotiate and haggle properly, the "sales reps" (aka vultures!) would rip the legs right off my body! So that goes both ways! I understand your point though, and I don't "haggle" on low priced items like a chainsaw from a hardware shop for example. It's listed at $649 or something, could I get it for $629 or 639? Sure, maybe... but as you said the guy needs to make some money to keep the lights on, and 20 isn't going to kill me.

I really do get the go with a bigger tractor part of this but I'm kinda stuck between a rock and a small place. Small shop, small yard, and whatever I end up with is going to need to wear many hats. Maybe not do any one thing great but do most everything well.

Looking around at B series tractors now.

You will get a better sense of the situation when your there in person face to face. A lot of things we buy and sell is a negotiation of sorts and doesn't make it right or wrong. You might see it in person and it either looks worse or better. You might find the people your dealing with to be either more or less dishonest than you thought.

It's all good, you can make a more informed decision once you see the equipment and meet the owner.

I understand, I'm in the same boat with my equipment, and some times supplies. I have a close relationship with my sales reps, and district sales managers... I do price check now and then, just to keep them in check.

Gotta work with what ya got, and what you can afford. Plus you can always trade up!

Thinking trade up at some point. Price jumps up pretty fast for a larger frame tractor even if the HP is the same and hydro GPM's are lower. Want to keep the hydro flow up some so I don't pull my hair out over a slow loader when moving snow.

One thing to be aware of with the BX's is that they have ZERO hydro flow at low RPMs. You need to have it spun up to get decent speed from the hydraulics. Drives me nuts when doing simple things like attachment changes or maneuvering in a tight garage. Not even power steering at idle or just off idle.

Somebody with a newer BX please tell me this isn't the case anymore.

Of course you may be used to that as the Jacobsen WAMs are the same way.

Must of read my mind. If it's possible, bite the bullet Bret Hart and stretch out payments at 0% interest... and buy what you really need for the long run.

Just be cautious about those financing plans. Some of them can get you with nasty interest for the rest of the loan if you end up late with just one late payment. Read the fine print. Might be better to finance with your local bank or credit union if you buy new.

I did consider new since this tractor will be used mostly for business, likely 80% or higher, and will produce a decent write off for the business. I believe it would be depreciated over 5 years and with a loan it would be a benefit, for taxes, over spending the cash I have saved. Just not sure I can get another loan quite yet. Bought a truck a month or so back.

Do you remember the approximate year and models you noticed this on?

Sounds like a bit of an exaggeration to have ZERO flow at low rpm. :BrianK:
