Priceless, bogydave! One thing's for sure on this forum, Ashwatcher, we laugh at and with each other as much as we learn from each other- but then again, you already knew that! Hey check out the thread in "the Smokehouse" "I like big butts!"
Does that mean I'm part of the crew now?---I've hoped and reveled in the thought...I'm just a wood hoarding slug-trying to fit in...a one man op!
Eric VW You sir, I believe is a true real deal-beer is on me...and yes, I said beer-I will let this thread die---need wood ID on a new thread...thx for the acceptance and humility to all
Welcome aboard Ash....I haven't been around much, been busy splitting and a few other projects. May go for a load of locust in the morning......I don't need to tell you to pull up a log and sit a spell, looks like you have been already.
Welcomes not quite over. A warm welcome to you. Like Locust Post, I've been away from the forum a few days...... When did you get your Fireview? I loved mine. They are great stoves. How big is your home, and how many cords do you go through in a season? Have you previously been burning 1 year seasoned wood? Bet, if so, that the Fireview did a respectable job with it. But you'll love burning with drier wood. Of course, you may have to cut down on the amount you process, once you get ahead to the three year mark. Love the pictures of your lovely land. Can we see one of the Fireview's home?
Beer? Welcome to FHC ashwatcher! Sorry for the late response, I'm usually all over new threads. I haven't figured out the tagging myself.
Locust Post, Horkn , sherwood , many thanks for your warm welcome-I have been blown away by the kindness here and have previously enjoyed your posts-I got my Fireview in '07 and my home is @1900 sp ft, open w/high ceilings so the stove does a good job-I have been well pleased with it but due to my slacking on wood last year, I think I need to replace the cat combustor now due to too green of wood, hence my diligence and determination---I will not let it happen again or buy wood from anyone I dont know-and hopefully not at all
sherwood also I use some 90lb Hunter original ceiling fans on 6' down rods to move the air around in the great room-I average burning 5-6 cords per year of course dependent on weather-I may not light the first fire some years until November, but from that point it does not go out until the last fire of spring...I need to work on some shoulder wood too because there have been nights lately that I could have used a lesser fire but then again Im mad at myself for the shape of my stove---Im going to get it done right, and keep it right this time
Thank you sir-I did the hearth with Eldorado stone, durarock and plate steel-the mantle is cherry from my farm-the floor is Brazilian Tigerwood-pretty but a little softer than advertised-the dogs nails have been tough on it---was told it was "just about as hard as red oak"---Not! Have a great day-Im out to cut
Ashwatcher, I am a little late to the join in the welcome. Your stove and stone work is nicely done. I just read your opening post about the friendliness of this forum. You are 100% correct. Besides this forum members are knowledgeable and helpful like very few other places. I think it is getting out into the woods on regular basis so the head clears and we all realize what is important in life. Now time for the second cup of coffee and to see if the "bride" has on the list for me today. Life is good.
Ashwatcher, it is amazing. We too got our Fireview in 2007. As you can see, we keep wood really close to the stove. A couple steps is all it takes. I see you have one of the big Hunter fans. No doubt you know this but it is still best to run those fans so they blow up in winter and down in summer. Just the opposite of what it seems is right but it works best that way.
Welcome Ashwatcher ! I'm late to the welcome party..lol.. Unlike you, when I joined I was totally new to not only firewood, but owning a home. I had a good truck but other than that I was starting from scratch. Since I've joined here I accumulated a lot of wood, a good wood hauling trailer, had a good ss wrapped liner run up my chimney, bought a stove, 2 saws, a ton of pallets, good tarps, and my entire body hurts.. I'll be burning some dry wood though which is something I learned here!
