I guess it's now time to see exactly how much wood my 0.14 acre lot will hold! I know the feeling, Super score
.14 acre lot? A lot less lawn to cut 'cause it's all taken up by stacks. What an awesome score - good luck has engulfed you!
With a four-year stock of Ash, once that's stacked he can start grabbing Oak to work into the rotation. All he needs is a place to stack....
That's a fantastic score man. And its felled and bucked too, great! !!! Been heating with almost all ash 2 years now, Still have some stacks too, Great wood. More standing dead will be coming down soon
Well, the ground was too soft Saturday to get in there. It refroze overnight so I got 3 trailer loads out Sunday AM before it thawed again. Probably around 2 cords sitting on my 15'x15' front yard. That haul alone will cover me for 2014-2015. I AM the official redneck/hoarder in my little suburban neighborhood. Definetly lots of funny looks and head shaking as I blocked the road to unload those 3 trailers. Pics later today-I promise. Some wood will need cut down, but its free so I cant complain.
.14 acre of land is a house lot of about 60x100 ft. I hope it is all useable. That has got to be a tight fit to get 10 cords of wood, your home, and park the cars. Nice score on the wood. Glad for you. You'll work hard for it, but it could have been a lot more in money and effort. Hope you have a splitter. If not, this is the time to justify the cost of one.
save$-You are right. Tight quarters for sure. That 0.14 includes my house w/1200 sq ft footprint, 540sq ft of driveway, 250 sq ft of patio, a 150sq ft of garden. Then there's the landscaping. My lot is about 50' wide. Currently the plan for stacking is 3 rows deep and 5'+ tall against my back fence (around 2.5 cords per row) and I also have a "pallet patio" that will hold another 1.75 cords if stacked 5' tall. 1 cord is going to the neighbor who is helping me grab it all. And yes, I thankfully have a splitter. We will see if I can get it all out of there. Some of his piles are across a dam for his little pond. I'm not really thrilled about driving across it. I will have about 4" of space on each side of the trailer. I could use my atv to haul them across and then to the truck, but that means one more time handling big rounds
Hehehe… "I could use my atv to haul them across and then to the truck, but that means one more time handling big rounds " … I have to grin on that one… all I see is a truck on it's side, and a guy looking a little pizzed rolling wood onto his ATV while banging his head against a tree.. … Sound about right?
Yep--sounds correct. Except you forgot the part about the truck recovery bill and then some more head beating. Times like that make "free" firewood far from it.
Started working on it. I will cut all this to 16" then split then wheelbarrow it about 30 yards to its final resting place before it meets the stove. Then I will go get another 2 cords worth!
Do your neighbors complain?? I've had a few issues at my place. Last summer I built sides for my dumpbed and one came over trying to makeup rules about working in things. The thing that really pizzed me off was it was a guy I had HELPED out several times. Welded up parts, hauled topsoil, worked on his car, etc. My brother has a nice piece of land, about 100 acres. It's so nice having no one around to hassle.
Nobody complains. They all have outdoor bonfire pits and no wood, saw, truck, or trailer. Not to mention, It will only sit out front for a short while (hopefully less than a week). My back yard has a 6' privacy fence so once its there, it's outta sight. Now the HOA, may write a letter once in a blue moon, but I have 3 notices before any action is taken for any violation. That usually takes months. They like to complain about my trailer in the driveway more than anything. So I bought another truck and just leave it hooked up and in the street. Voila....no more letters. HOA can kiss my...
No complaints in 5 years...not even from the 066 or my old mac which is equally as loud. I have some decent neighbors thankfully. Most will hear a saw and actually come to investigate just like a hoarder lmao. Hoarders in training maybe?
