Not a fire without some meat over it:D.
We run a wood boiler and radiant tubes in the floor and that's like driving a finish nail wth a sledge in the shoulder seasons. The mini split heat pump does the job for us during those seasons. Our "lay out" does not really allow for a small wood stove although I'd love one.

Not yet but getting close. New to me house is shaded 95% of day and gets no solar gain. Nice during the heat of summer. Chilly on 40 degree mornings . Also no primary heat, wood only!!!

Got a small one going now it’s in the mid50’s and damp out and inside. My little girl said she was cold I smiled at her and said don’t worry daddy will make it warm in the house now she’s sitting by the fire warm and happy.

It's only 50° here now and cloudy with an overnight low at the freezing point.
I think tonight is the night.

Had small fire in shop yesterday. House stove going this am. Just to take the chill out. Highs only 60 and rain. Felt good to light things up.

Backwoods Savage we are still at the cottage but have been burning every day now for the past two weeks!

Most days require just a burn in the morning and evening but there are those days that the fire is kept going all day long! :picard: Not strong fires, mind you, but that's what basswood is for, no?

    What is your heater there?
Is that the place where you were working on the underground boiler line?

Lit the fire before going to bed last night and am glad I did. 32 degrees outside now and 71 inside.
Going to be sunny today so it's all good.

Had my first real (not break-in) fire ever last night. Put on the fire at halftime of SNF, and turned it down after the end of the third quarter. At 5:30am it was 33 outside with frost on the truck, but the house was at 72 with a nice bed of coals.

Looks like a warmup coming starting tomorrow. Nuts. Also looks like we might be headed into a wet period. I may give in and cover some wood piles early this fall. Still have lots of stacking to do too so have to get busy!

Oh yeah. Bass should work out nicely right now.

It won't be too long before you are thinking about closing up the cottage for a while or getting out the ice fishing gear.

Been jonesing to get it going. Maybe a small slow one to dry out the fire bricks. Won't be long now until it will be an every night and day thing. Can't wait to enjoy the warmth of my labor.

Always close it once the overnights get down to below freezing...…….well, at least shut off the water then anyway!

It is a nice time of year to be there as there are no longer any "drunk-tooners" (party people on pontoons). Nice and quiet and you enjoy being outdoors as long as you can; even 99 said we can start having fires outside once again! Along with the cooler temps, are no bugs. Don't know what's worse...the bugs or the drunks!
