once upon a time, they had nothing......then someone decided there had to be a means to stop the feed mechanism if the hopper lid was left open (afraid of hopper fires), sooooo, they came out with a hopper sensor.....was a little orange/yellow breather, silicone hose connected to it....and it tended to get plugged.......so, they went to a plastic mechanical lid switch....it tended to break.......so, they went to a metal mechanical lid switch, which, while not being prone to breakage, caused issues with extension hoppers, or folks who didn't realize you had to clean errant pellets off the lid to get it to close right....bah.....just force it closed....what can happen, right? The newer iterations don't have, and aren't required to have, lid switches, so Harman left them out, making the units more reliable...a good thing.

Same here. P68 has the switch, P43 does not.

Another difference on my stoves, Will. The P68 hopper lid has a "swell latch". The P43 hopper lid has a knob. I prefer the swell latch.
