I made a boo boo....Turns out the wood I got dropped of is............ELM!!!! I know it is half decent, better than pine, but kind of upset with myself because I was looking forward to splitting and stacking nice straight clean ash. 20201008_164814.jpg 20201008_164827.jpg 20201008_164827.jpg 20201008_165239.jpg 20201008_165246.jpg 20201008_165250.jpg Second to last pic had me on the ash. I can say I make some jaded decisions when it comes to free wood. Kind of like the 3 cords of massive pine rounds that I got 3 years ago, and have let 2 cords of it go to junk campfire wood. Never stop learning I guess.

I am going to make the best of it. I am looking at about 4 cords of it. Hopefully it splits as nice as I am seeing some split on youtube.

That looks good, bark comes off=clean wood. Should split ok. I got some this year, myself, got it in the shed drying.
    Sandhillbilly says it's great wood.

Thats $%^#$! Elm is good firewood, just a nightmare to split by hand. Ive heard when dead its easier though. Are you hand or hydro splitting it Pricey106 ? If hydro, no worries. Dont feel bad, years back i mistaked elm for ash myself....and i hand split. :picard:

Hydros all the way. I spent alot of years busting rounds with a maul, wedge and sledgehammer, and sometimes explosives. I came across a couple videos looking like it will split clean if you don't split the rounds directly in half. Split them like you are slabbing lumber. Haven't got a chance to split any yet. I have 6 truckloads to deliver by Friday. Gotta make santa money...

Well, happy belated birthday Pricey106 !!!

Was that chicken fried steak? Whatever it was it looks delicious. Brussels sprouts are very good for you too. They kinda makes up for all the fried stuff;).

Now ash that turned out to be elm? Eh, since you've got hydros, you'll be just fine. After all, it was delivered free to you with no work and no branches. It's great firewood. Did I read that you sell firewood too? If so, your customers will love elm for burning if you did all the hard work for them.
