I’m around 265 now and can feel the difference. In my video I posted on here a couple years ago I was around 218 lol. I can feel the difference. Need to get rid of some of this extra weight. I recently quit with soda completely so maybe that will help haha. But thank you, the cardio’s there surprisingly lol.

I hear you. I got up to 231, but it wasn't a good weight for me. Right now I'm sitting around 215-218. I've met quite a few big guys who surprised me with their endurance and how quick they could run. Pretty scary seeing 300+ lbs move like lightning.

I hand split 6+ a year until about 64 years old. I bought Tractor Supply 25 ton splitter. I had no ailments or aches, the time was just ripe. At 69 now I don't miss it.

Same here. 265 is a little too heavy for me. My uncles are built similar to me. I’m only around 5’10. I felt pretty good at 238-250 even. I got up to 280 and after I saw that ion the scale I knew I had to do something lol. The extra weight is definitely felt in every movement really.

Sounds like you hand split up to a good age with good results!

16" on the 5 ton sounds about right.
The specs on the particular Troy built splitter show it has a cycle time of 19 seconds...that's slower than most machines in that class...more common is in the 11-13 second range...that's for a full stroke and back. But most wood does not take a full stoke to split it, so if you short cycle it then go grab the next piece, it should be sitting there ready for the next split...so you can move pretty fast if you want to.

I split some Hickory today with hydro and was thinking this is the devil’s wood. The heartwood just turned into a stringy squirrels nest. Hatchet chopping busted 20” rounds to get something to fall off. Not as f’d as Blackgum, but made Elm look good.

Actually, we have an intentional community here. People come and go, but, those who are not here come and help (Stumpy). They get paid in food, fellowship, brotherly bonds, relationship, iron sharpens iron etc. Some we help facilitate homesteading projects for, because we have the tools and experience. But, they also know, that if stuff hits the fan, they'll have a place to land, even if temporarily. Stumpy will be here after surgery to recover for a week kinda soon.

That Troybilt was well known as a slow machine but one cannot judge them all by just one splitter.

I am sure you want a accurate measurement of the splitter but do you think a CAT SCAN is necessary ?

I hand split for several reasons. One is I actually enjoy it. And another is Im too cheap to buy a splitter.
One nice thing is being almost 5 years ahead. I Can take my time to split and do it when the feeling strikes.

That was a PET scan, just to be accurate here...
