It's usually my right forefinger that takes the brunt of any missed nails or whatever. That one fingernail would fall off several times a year due to those misses, and sometimes that finger would be skinned almost to the bone. It took me a while to learn, let someone else hold the nail   or use a nail gun!

True story. I was working as an assistant to a carpenter when I was a kid and we were on a scaffold nailing up a tin ceiling. I was moving right along when I hit a nail that didn't go through the metal, but came back down with the hammer. I instinctively swung the hammer again thinking the nail was started and nailed my thumb to the ceiling. S*!t happens.

Do you know how much wood a guy can split in a month testing 3 mauls, or split axe, or go Devils as some people say?

Last year over the course of one month, I cut split and stacked 7 cord. Of that 7 there was at least one cord of elm and one cord of the most twisted gnarly ash you can imagine. It was harder to split than the elm. With those two it took a little better than 2 weeks to process. The rest, cherry, walnut, and white pine was a breeze by comparison.

So how much can a guy split in a month? If they were splitting the same types of wood I just mentioned at the same difficulty level, I would guess a guy could probably cut, split, and stack anywhere from 14 to 21 cord. But, that is just a guess. if they had all straight grained wood to process, it's anyone's guess just how much wood a man could be process in a month using nothing but a splitting axe or maul. I would honestly think 50 cord would not be out of the question.

Nice video. That X-25 sure held its own against the other splitting mauls.

Yes it does. It really is a capable tool for the price. Even though I personally dislike fiberglass / plastic handles I can't deny that I could use it alone and keep my family warm
