Like I said, this is NOT a spreadsheet, nor has it ever played one on a hit TV show.
I've scribbled various notes and some no longer apply, but I understand it, even if nobody else does......I think.:D
Not sure it can be sen, but I have a couple places where I've carried it to 3 decimal places. Every little bit helps.

Pretty sure it was Shari over "there" that had the diagram showing all her stacks around the yard.
    It was pretty cool.
    Hers was hand drawn too.

Looks good. Some day I'll get there. Mine started out as a stack turned into a cube then morphed into a big pile.:heidi:grab what i can and hope I'm not found on the bottom.:headbang:

I started out with stacks right at the front door.
Got sick and tired of fighting the tarps, snow, ice, wet wood,...... so I built the shed.
Took me 4.5 years to get there, but once I made up my mind......done deal.

I'm right around 14 face cord so far. The girlfriend and I just purchased our home in March, knowing it needed some work. It's an older home and needs new windows on the back side of the house. The wood furnace, Woodchuck 526, is fairly new but the website says it's only 65% efficient in a new construction home. So I figure with the improvements that are needed in my house I'm probably down to about 40%!!

Little over 3 cords give or take a little for length. House needs new winders and could use new sheathing and siding and sealed up more betterer.

Did a little measuring but still not real exact because I will leave a part of a stack sometimes if I get into a lot of locust or hickory when I don't need that fire power. Closest approximation is 1.75 cords so far. Started with 23 cords, I might make it through but can still burn the kitchen chairs if needed.

Started off the season with 1/2 cord of aspen, then 1.25 red maple got me to the end of December. I had planned to move a 1.25 cord pile of green and white ash from behind the garage onto the porch while I was on my Christmas/New Years vacation, but I got really sick and ended up going to the hospital. I thought it was appendicitis but it went away. :) So I've been limping along lately, bringing it up to the house 1 wheelbarrow load at a time. I've gone through about 1/3 of that pile.

So I'm at a little over 2 cords. I had estimated around 3, but had 5 available to burn this year. So I'm right about where I thought I would be, except I don't have any wood left on the front porch.

I've used right under 2 or so cords. I built a Holzhausen a couple years ago and estimated it would last me the winter, but it's only going to last me another month or so. I didn't take into account that I tossed all the wood into the center instead of stacking it, so there's a lot less wood in it that I had calculated. I still have plenty of dry wood still in another holz, but I'm starting to realize they aren't as efficient as far as space as I thought, unless I took the time to stack the middle of it as well (which isn't worth it to me). They also are a lot harder to dismantle safely than to construct, I'm going back to stacking in straight rows next year.

Marchria, That is very cool. Significant other must love all the stacks. Mine keeps asking if she will ever have grass. Maybe a few flower pots in front will work.:)

Lets just say the wife has "issues" with the firewood. The property you see in the picture is 1/10th of an acre, storing 11 cord! Not much space left! The diagram is not to scale and leaves much too much space... ;)

I like to save the hollowed-out anthill rounds for planters... Matches the rest of my woods-scaping. :D

Yep, we got a couple hollowed out rounds like that from friends that my wife planted flowers in.
    Pretty cool.

We like these particular friends, so it would be rude to plant flowers in them.

Nothing wrong with planting flowers in friends as long as you are willing to support what blooms.
