Forecast is upwards of 90 F here. Humidity is very high. Being proactive today and have the AC on from the start. Just getting the moisture out will make it more comfortable.

I resisted AC for 10 years. We decided to change our heating system to hi efficiency propane to get away from the fuel oil BS up here. Central air went in @ same time. Now, I wouldn't be without it.
Kicking myself in the arse for having waited so long to do it................................

The ceiling fans probably don't hinder the AC system much unless you have floor ducts?
The circulating air from a fan will make it "feel" 4-5deg cooler as your sweat evaporates easier.

I had to upgrade the digital t-stat a month ago, the output relay was intermittently failing on the old one. My timer is set to cool @0500 to 74F cuts up to 80F @0800 back to 76F @1600(1530 with recovery time) and ease back to 78 after bedtime 2200.
My system never runs during the middle of the day, even with these 98+ days the hottest the house gets is 78, but being dehumidified it feels nice to walk inside - especially after diving in the pool;)
powerbill last month was $160 - a fraction of friends of mine, that's 50-60 over normal fall/spring, but includes increased usage of the pool pump

We keep the stat set at 74, unless it get's really hot. The temps at ceiling level can be as much as 5 degrees warmer when the fans are off. When the fans are on, the ceiling temps go down. It's no big deal since our electric bill is rarely over $100 in the summer. I think she just likes the feeling of air moving.

We run the air daily (if its above 80° during the day, it's miserable at night).

This past weekend was about 90° or better everyday. We had 92° on Saturday when we went to Roverfest. Outside for 12 hrs in the sun. We were ready for a cold house. Stat was set to 70° that night.

This was me and Mrs. Dex on Sat.

Rottiman, that's kind of what I'm afraid of.... it got to 84 here today it's 67 right now. in winter I get comfortable by Woodstove and do not like to go out. When worked at bank I walked outside and the 20 degree increase in temperature sapped my desire to be outside. Now if I get to hot I jump in pool rarely over 75 cool off and go back to work..

Also house has baseboard hot water heat no vents hard to put in central air would have to run ducts hard to hide in post and beam house with vaulted ceilings... thinking of looking into ductless mini splits though.. in short probably just being stubborn:emb:

If you had 10 women in one room, you'd need @ least 6-8 thermostats mounted on the wall to appease them..................................

Yup, ductless splits will be your ticket. It is great if your near a pool to jump in. Trouble is yesterday I was not, in fact was standing on blacktop when not driving.................Feel refreshed this a.m. though.

True story, kid helping my grandfather, he was master electricians and plumber, in his basement he had a wire to a thermostat tucked behind stairs not attached it had been few weeks so I knew something was wrong. I asked him do we need to fix this?

    Nah, you leave that alone..
    but gramps it's broken....

it's alright... ya see your grandmother has hot flashes and she shuts off thermostat and open windows. then she gets cold and shuts windows and cranks thermostats. know if her hot spells last to long the pipe freeze. so I only got 1 thermostat in this house it's here in basement and set to 55. her thermostat upstairs isn't wired up.

I watched after that and grandma would change that thermostat at least twice an hour...

Yes, but when the wood stove is burning, there are no complaints here. She loves wood heat and often tells others how nice it feels.

We have just 2 small window units and they do a great job of cooling. We leave them in year around so no changing things.

In this last hot spell, we had them on 2 days so we'll say we've ran the air for 3 days so far this summer. Looks like no more this week as weather looks good. Also, when we consider 4 or 5 days last year plus 3 this year, that is not a lot of running of air and I doubt it would pay to have central air here.
