....so, I spent some time splitting and cutting. Was a nice morning here today and I have an empty rack that needs to be filled. Still loving the x27. Those are the rounds of the red oaks that were taken down several months ago. I'll move and stack it tomorrow. I did some cutting that I didn't take pictures of. Some ash and red oak logs I got delivered for nothing, as mentioned in a different thread. But, I did remember to take pics of some pre-splitting work. I cut into the big rounds of oak, that M2theB converted from log length, as few weeks ago, when he was field testing a saw he rebuilt. I cut a groove into the rounds, to be able to get my wedges started, then have at it with a sledge. I'll be doing that tomorrow, or, in a couple of days. Mostly, 16" length rounds. I'll add to this thread over the next week or so.
That's a good way to start a wedge. I've also plunge cut into the top on many a big round, just gotta be a little careful. Nice work!
I find splitting them like that to work pretty well. Once the wedges get going, the rounds will split along their weakest line. Then, I quarter them to be able to move them around to their final splitting location.

I was wondering on the Pike today if it had gotten cold enough for you start tackling that side if the stone wall. Nice job adding to your stack yard!
