Looking to finally fill the dirt floor of our 3 bay pole barn/wood shed. Local landscaping company sells DGA crushed concrete for $20 a ton, average 3/4" size some little bigger some little smaller. Looking for advice and wondering if this was a good option? One bay was taken over by the chickens (lol), middle bay will be my outdoor tool storage, riding mower, saws, misc..., last bay will be for firewood. Advantages of going smaller to a quarry blend at $30 a ton? Also going to make a small fire pit area like shown below with it. Thanks in advance for any advice!
I like pug mill or crusher run since they pack gooder. 3/4” size might be ok for you Chuck, but I’m no fan of getting tripped up when working/walking on bigger stones.
I used 1.25” clean crushed rock. Kinda like angular drain rock. It allows water to easily flow away from above or below. No wicking of moisture. They often call this a capillary break. I Put pallets on top. Do you plan to stack wood right on this?
Soil type? Fabric below keeps water and mud seeping up. My driveway is 5/8 minus not sure how you get average. A screen with holes smaller falls through oversized recrush rinse and repeat. 5/8 is fine
Yes I plan on stacking wood in one of the bays. I ended up getting a quarry blend which looked a little better than the crushed concrete. Smaller the stone the more $$, so I didn't go crazy, I just wanted something other than dirt on the floor. It compacted nicely and was just what I was looking for.
