Aunt Margaret passed day before thanksgiving; not really sad due to quality of life she had. Dementia and didn’t recognize her own children.

I guess I am grieving stage of life where more family GTG are for funerals than weddings or baby showers

That is always such a shame when demtia sets in. They seem to become a different person.

I also agree about family GTG. In my case there are only a couple cousins that are older than I. I guess this means we are now the older generations.

Sorry for your loss. MIL passed a year ago and her sister (aunt) has had dementia for about 10 years. My older sister also has dementia. We're all taking care of each other.

It was a blessing when my Dad passed at the beginning of the year. He had full blown Alzheimer's and was a vegetable for the last several months. At that point, he didn't even know how to swallow food that was spoon fed to him. I grieved that the once very smart man was reduced to that state, but could not grieve his passing at all.

I’ve been there with my own Father and could not agree more with your sentiments. While a sudden death is certainly not a welcome event, dementia takes your loved ones away just a little bit every single day. It’s heartbreaking.
