Good pellet. Nice heat, low ash. I had some troubles with poor bag quality a few years ago, but I'd buy greenways in a heartbeat at a good price. Not as much heat as a 'set, but close enough.
Where did you score these ? I love gritty oak ash! If box store , please swing by hot or not thread. Thanks Ray
Picked up a few bags of the Greenway pellets on the way home from work. At checkout, the girl says hardwoods or softwoods? I asked why. She says because the price is different. Apparently the hardwoods are the advertised price of $5.59 and softwoods are $5.29. Hmmm, that's interesting. I asked her which pellets they classify as softwoods. She said Minute Man and Big Heat. They had open tons of Minute Man, North Americans, Greenways, and an unopened ton of Inferno Golds. I guess she forgot to mention the Inferno Golds at softwoods.
Yup, this is TSC. Agreed, the price is not too attractive anymore. It's fine though, I'm only buying a couple bags for testing. Liked it much better when they were selling at the early buy price of $4.50/bag. Fly on.
My TSC (farmington ct)is loaded with crap. & they were doing so great with green liggies 2 seasons in a row, bummer. Im game to blow a few clams for the thrill, if they had you stores stock. Now that i think about it, i have a mason who is strung out on scratch tickets--- i finally get it! Even at that price i couldnt fly straight, id pop on them too.
You didn't happen to be at TSC about 3:30 or so? I was there, picked up 3 bags of Greenways to try; when I was leaving I saw a guy go directly to the covered pallet of Greenways out front of the store. Buy the way, I burned about a 1/3'rd of a bag of GW last night. Very hot, not enough of an amount to get a good idea of ash but the burn pot looked pretty good.
Well guess I have to head down there, I get the hardwood vs softwood question also, when I ask more they stare at me.
I was there around 6:15 last night. Slim pickings at that time. Not to mention with all the rain, and the awful way they cover them (if they cover them at all) is enough to make me drive right by. It was a stretch to find a few bags that appeared to be dry, and even now I'm not sure what I'm going to see when I open the bags. I really do wish they would find a better way to keep the pellets protected from the elements after they crack open a pallet. So many times I have driven by and seen open tons with no cover at all, taking a torrential rain downpour. Thanks for the burn feedback, I will post something as soon as I get a chance to do a good burn. Something tells me these are getting a HOT rating (if they are dry)!
I agree, they need an overhang outside like many of the lumber yards use. I slide 3 bags out that appeared to be dry; burned 1 bag and have no complaints other than a little ashy. Very good heat and no clinkers in that bag. These produce a very dark/black ash as compared to the softwoods I've burned but funny thing is though the Greenways sooted up the glass a bit more but the residue wiped off easier. I did ask how many ton they had and was told only 6 ton were delivered. I can tell you that the Johnston, RI store does not have the Greenways.
Threw in the first of the Greenways today. You guys were right, as usual. They produce excellent heat, and not too much ash buildup in the burn pot. Very dark ash like unbidden said. They remind me a lot of the AWF Hardwoods. Also like the AWF Hardwoods, it seems like my stove goes through them more quickly than other pellets...strange, right? Definitely would buy them again, the heat is fantastic. These get a HOT rating on the 2104 box store pellet list for sure.
