I did mine last summer. Me and a buddy found grindings on Craig's list for cheaper than 57 around here, about $15/ ton. We had 30 tons delivered in a Friday at the top corner of my drive by the house. We then dumped and back drug all the way down the drive with the tractor bucket (about 300-350 ft). Back drug it cleanly again and then tamped it with a plate tamper (roller next time it Needs it). I then sprayed with about 20 gal of diesel and let it bake in sun the rest of the week in the 80-90* sun. It turned back solid and lasted pretty good and held together through this winter. EPA may not like the process but it works.
Seeing as how that garage is right at grade level, you really could use a small apron at the entrance of it. (I would show you a pic of my garage, but as you know.....)
Apron? Like this? How far out from garage and what material? Benenfit is mud control? Also I am not sure it was always at ground level, this house was vacant for many years, and the snow drifts leave behind a lot of dirt when they melt off... I have a new hump in the back yard from the dirt left behind from the blob snowdrift.
I would hate to have that mess being walked into my house from the dog's feet. For years, I put up with it. Just as the kids were grown and leaving home, I had the driveway surfaced with asphalt. We have to seal it every few years. So far so good.
Larry, I am at with mud from the dogs on the torn up yard out back from new septic last fall, and mud from the front with that driveway. Out of control
Hi guys and Stinny I hopefully have a truck coming out next week if the late snows finally let up, only 3-4 yards of concrecrete, I know that truck can hold more. What is the least I can can get by with on an apron for the garage door? Like 2.5' or more like 10' ?
From the looks of the ground there (maybe can't really tell with the pic) it almost looks like you'll have to have some of it removed where the drive is and then stone/gravel could then be used. It looks as though that's the only way you're going to be able to have the finish drive grade end up lower than the garage floor. A 6' out apron ought to be fine as long as you have a little pitch away from the garage.
If the ground is pretty soft, it ought to work perfectly... fun too, if WWW was drivin... Is there a slight grade down to the road from your garage or is it flat?
I think there is still a very slight grade to the road, so much dirt and sand blown in by winds and trapped on snow drifts over the years the ground level is higher than when the house was built. If the weather is right I will be driving the bobcat too Move a bunch of dirt around and get this place more functional, dirt has built up along the west fence atleast a foot over the years We will move that too depending on the length of the bobcat rental.
"I will be driving the bobcat too" ... wouldn't expect anything else from the one called Wild West...
I have a guy and a skid steer coming on Wed for grading and tamping, scheduled it tonight.....Think I might need to delay it. I cannot find a source for oil, cal chlor of mag chlor in my town, any alternative ideas for after the tamping?
