Gram n Gramp were tough ol birds!

I grew up with a sawmill in the family as well, though now we are up to three with a shingle mill as well! In some ways I can't believe I was so little working around such a monstrosity of a piece of equipment, not to mention how dangerous it was. I got beaned in the head with a stub-limb off a spruce log once and now you will not see a log of mine with them on them. I think it helps get a better grade for your logs, but they claim it doesn't.

A great life growing up nonetheless.
