Dex, when you installed the spring handle, how far?
Did you bottom it out on the handle?
    Nope

I have my door handle close to bottomed. I cannot get the air control spring that far in its rod by hand. I haven't tried pliers, but would like to screw it on a little further without chipping it with tools.

No. It's a fair distance out. I can measure it tomorrow evening. Because everyone has to install it themselves, this does vary greatly when people say they set it "here or there".

Well, according to DexterDay , it might be worth trying to put it in the bedroom ... for (ahem) religious purposes. ;)

That's where I was going with the question.
I've actually tried unscrewing it a little, but I can't w/o tools.....that might scratch it up.
    Can we get an Amen?:D

I can attest to the noise; it is the same blower they ship with the Madison. I might see if I can replace it but those blowers are not cheap.

I brought the Madison, from the same company and similar to the 30-NC. My chimney is too low; going to add a section when I can get some help. I had smoke spillage with the Madison but hoping that the increase stack height might help. I found the Madison very easy to get started; I would split my own kindling and do a bottom up fire; using old newsprint from flyers and newspapers as the starter. I piled the kindling in sort of a crisscross manner and leave the door open a crack and let the small fire burn hot to get my chimney up to temp. Even with the fire burning I still get smoke spillage but my chimney is not at the recommended height; I will know more after i increase the chimney and start burning this year.

Burn time depends upon your heating needs.

The 30 can maintain stove top temps of over 250 degrees for over 12 hours depending upon the wood and load.

Pine, packed full an tight, will give you 6-8 hours of temps above 250. Usually around 6 hours.

The coal bed with pine does not last anywhere near as long as it does with hardwood. Several times in the morning I would need to restart the stove as there was not enough coals for a restart after a load of pine.

The same is true of poplar; which is what I burned last year for the short time I burned. Therefore, I usually had to light a fire each morning using kindling because there was not enough coals to start a fire.

My chimney is tall enough at 15 feet (floor to top, per Englander), but just. I might increase it, if I do I will certainly let you know here on the forum of any changes I note. If you beat me to it, let me know what you find. :handshake:

Load her to the top, pack it full, but don't leave the air on high for too long even if stove top temps are low as you can melt the stove's innards. Just use a somewhat lower setting like 50%.

I burn through loads of PNW softwoods in three hours from full load to a few small coals that could maybe be used to start kindling. That is because I run this stove hard, try to maintain 700 stove top temp, and use a blower. The best I've ever done is to find coals 12 hours later buried in the ash and used them to start kindling. Most of our evergreens make nearly zero ash but the red alder does a decent job of making ash to hold coals for longer. Real heat, 3 hours.

So I do not buy this idea that burn time depends on your heating needs. That's ridiculous. The stove is a stand alone appliance that burns fuel at a rate determined by the operator. If the operator is cold he selects a higher burn rate which means a lower burn time. The stove isn't smart enough to know if the room is cold or not, it just burns wood. We know that burn times can range from three hours (me) to 12 hours (others) depending on burn rate.

Oh and note that if you bump into that ceramic baffle board on top of the stove that you can mess them up and they aren't cheap to replace.

Yeah, I bought a new plastic keyless entry remote for my older truck (like 4$ on amazon) and now I put the keys on the hearth so as not to melt the remote. If there's no fire going I still use that place as my goto key location though.

Burning the stove each night to cure it. I had it a little over 500 STT tonight, and the smell is slight. The wife loves the heat and seeing the flames. I am getting the hang of lighting it, as expected. I declare it a success!
