Not Birch!!!! No birch around here locally ! It's an aspen that is locally called Silver Poplar. The bottom side of the leaves looks silver colored when the breeze blows and the sun is shining. It is quite pretty when u have some elevation and are looking at a stand of it. Locally we have white spruce, black spruce, silver poplar and cottonwood. And diamond willow. But that's not of a size that would be considered much for general firewood use. This is my secret spot. Almost 0 traffic.
I built it from the frame of a tarmac munitions wagon that was surplused. Heavy duty but relatively light weight . All aluminum except for the tounge and bed. Which is a salvaged piece of concrete pumping pipe that had the concrete solidify in it. Bed planks are white spruce 2x4s that I chainsaw milled . My plan is to build independent walking beams and make it a tandem wheel trailer. Then make sled runners for winter.
I waited until you stated that is is aspen, or poplar because of the guys who always seem to mistake yellow or tulip poplar with the poplar we have. Funny that people see popple and think it is birch but then I also remember a well-known fellow who swore one time it was beech. Amazing...
Yesterday was too hot And today is supposed to be even hotter. So , no going to the woods today for me.
Way too hot for me! Has to be worse for Alaskans. I'm hoping the dewpoint was not too high but quite often is when it is that hot.
Suppose to get to 78 here today. Probably 90 plus lower elevation. 99 is too hot for anything. I remember changing chains out on a delimber about 15 years ago. You could hear the logs cracking like rice crispy cereal. Man it was hot that summer
Gee whiz bear 1998 you might at least share some of that with folks like us who need some badly. Why hog it all?
Come n get get Dennis.....we are over 8.5"s now n that aint no chit!....I must say...here in the hills...the areas is handling it well...I'm concerned about...if tbe wind picks up.
Right!! Like that storm we got in May of last year. There's still trees that need cleaned up from that once you get back in to the woods a bit around my area. I'm just hoping they're still good once I finally get to them. What part of PA are you in? I'm in the Huntingdon/State College area. We've had 3.5 inches since Saturday but that's at my house. I'm sure there are spots with more than that nearby.
I'm in the N.W. part of Adams County...our property borders Michaux State Forest. We had a train of rain during the last 72 hours...what has me curious...if it turns hot n dry...how long will it be until you think we didn't get this much rain...just thinkin...
It's been hot all weekend and so far this week. The wood that I have in so far is getting the moisture sucked right out of it with the temp in the 80 S in the shade. And humidity in the 20s. And some wind. We've had Red Flag warnings for the past 4 days. I wish all my winters wood was processed and in the shed.
Back seats in pick up are preferred up here. Good place to keep the arctic gear in the winter. My 3/4 ton doesn't have a back seat. So it's only good for me and 1 dog. 2 if they aren't too big.
I have to say this, even though i have a pretty good 22 ton hyd splitter , i'm impressed with the kinetic splitters.
