Got some oak & cherry split, big white oak coming down tomorrow

Don't blame you one bit for taking that tree down. To me, any tree that can fall and risk crashing into my house needs to be removed. You still have a forest of trees surrounding your place. We built in the woods. First had mold growing everywhere. Then the hurricanes took some trees and scared the sh!t out of us. From then on we spent years removing trees with no regret.

 

Contacted the guy yesterday, gonna take it down when the rains stop next week

 

So, it's stopping next week, eh?
Thought I might need to start building an Ark after I looked at the weather.

Probably the biggest decision maker was the weather - sad to see this nice big summer shade tree go.
few miles up the road saw a similar tree break at the root ball and crush the house/dormers in a straight line wind storm last spring...kind of been sticking in my mind

Good for us bad for some others but the torrential rains that stayed down on the coast (Mobile/Pensacola) prevented the moist flow from the gulf so not much but a few thunderstorms...
Then it was beautiful all day today, and I come home to a Maple laid over at its root ball at the base of the driveway
It's a nice straight 8-10" 30' tree must have glanced off the power line, termites, rain, and new leaves helped it over - shoulder wood

 

Yeah its really sad a lot of people lost everything and worse .
Glad to see you're good and you got some firewood to boot
