I'm not a huge fan of working on roofs. I'll be doing my work, then take a pic or 5. I'll take some picsfrom the ground too.

So, once I get this install 100%, then it's on to more wood getting.

I've got off all from Christmas through new years.

Said it above- BE CAREFUL, especially since you say you don't like roof work. Don't wear your slippers up there, but hard soled boots ain't no gooder either!
Awaiting the finished pics, man! No hurry tho, we'll be here.

Secondaries are cool as hell, flames dancing around, just don't think you have to have only secondaries all the time., secondaries will do their job even if it isn't dancing light show in the top

Had me fooled; I thought you were done for the day. Obviously, I underestimated your spirit! Way to go. Must be quite a difference from an open fireplace.

I can't find my pyrometer, but the fan is still on @11 am, and its still putting out heat.
I only threw 2 logs on it at 1am.

Thats the good thing about a stove. You dont have to chunk it full of wood all night like an open fireplace

The fan finally turned out about 15 minutes ago. At halftime of this first NFL game, I'll get my butt on the roof. I am missing my fire.

That sounds about like what I see. 6 hours of good heat output and then it starts to taper off and the fan can linger on for several hours after that.

It went off at like 1pm. So last loading at 1 am and residual heart at just until 1 pm it's right at 12 hours.

I found my pyrometer, and basically finished the top plate and cap. I had to clamp the top plate down with the old cap. It isn't usable until that silicone seals. The SS liner goes all the way to the top of the old cap. This is temporary but I needed a way to clamp the top cap down. The liner wanted to shift to one side, so I needed to do something to clamp it down.

I'll give it until dusk, which is soon.

    But here's my plan.
This is how it sits now. Yes that's creosote. The old chimney as huge as it is would cool the smoke/ fumes down and cause creosote, regardless of how dry the wood was. The top plate is flat, silicone caulked down to the Terra cotta liner. The old 14x14 square cap is bolted down with the retaining screws. The SS liner his the top of the square cap. It needs to be that high for the round cap that came with the stove. I assume all other caps are like the round one I've got.

I'm thinking of cutting the wire mesh off with el grinder just above where the angle hits. That way it will be secured with 4 bolts until it totally cures, there's a drip edge which I like, and then u can simply put the round cap on and enjoy a fire tonight.

Otherwise I'll have to wait until tomorrow night, then hope the silicone is cured. It's dark when I get home, so I don't like that idea, plus it'll be dark all week when I get home. So that wood be no fires until next weekend. No thanks to that.

Yep. Gotta love that. Packers in first place NFC North now.

I don't root for Seattle, almost ever. This was an exception.

We live the insert. I'm jonesing for a fire right now.

That's it. I'm going on the roof now. I'll cut off the screen fit the old cap. Then fit the round cap, and light a fire!!!!

Done. I cut off the mesh for the old cap, used the lower part of the old cap as a locator/ clamp until the silicone dries.

    Fire's going.

Here's my results, it's just been lit, so that's why there's a bit more smoke than it should have.

Happy for you Horkn. Looks good sitting in there and appears to be a nice big heater. And you got it in before any serious winter weather rolled in!

Yep, it's early December, there's no ice or snow on the roof, or anywhere and its pretty nice out. Low 40s today, no rain snow or anything. Just clear skies.
