Massdam makes an awesome rope puller.

We bought a More Power Puller this year. Wyeth-Scott is just down the road from us so we went in person and hung around while they made one for us. We got the 3-ton model with the 35 feet of Amsteel blue on it. I grew up using a MPP with the steel cable my dad had for moving rocks, so when I needed a cable puller, I knew what I wanted. Let me tell you, after using the Amsteel Blue, I will never go back to steel cable! It is SOOOOOOO much nicer to use. Doesn't try to birdcage, doesn't stick metal slivers into your hand, and you can just pay out what line you'll need, coil it up in you hand, and walk over to where you need it because it doesn't have a mind of its own (unlike steel cable). Being able to pull more than 30' without resetting is one heck of an improvement over the cheap 2-ton cable pullers as well.

The Maasdam has a lot of utility and I'll be buying one next month, but it's worth keeping in mind that MPP has 4 times the rated pull of the Maasdam and is actually proof tested WELL in excess of that. It's kind of neat to watch them blow up a MPP in the testing rig they have in the factory.

I've used my Maasdam for a very long time and never run into a situation felling where I would ever need more pulling power. Ive proof tested mine beyond its rating a couple time im sure:thumbs:

I don't doubt the MPP is a wonderful tool. Looks stout.

I agree that you're unlikely to need more than 1500lbs getting the tree down. The 6k the MPP pulls is likely just make the tree splinter if you pull too hard. However, once the tree is on the ground, I've used well more than the 6k the MPP can pull to move the felled tree around to where I want it, so the Maasdam would be sadly insufficient.

    Horses for courses.

I'm trying to get my shopping list together for chains, choker, cable, winch strap and block for pulling over a couple of tall black cherry trees. I'm thinking that I'm going to get the 3 ton w/ blue line.
