Get em young before they can do more damage! We've got a bad yote problem at work. Every day we see a few of the pups and when the local fire siren goes off, it sounds like a howling contest
I don't know about you guys but I ate like a hog when I was a teenager. Three less hungry mouths to feed.
Sweet!!! The one at the bottom of the pic had a bad day. That .223 tore him up. Looks like his head/jaw got one of those rounds? What are you running through it? How many grains and how far away were they? I have seen a few here, as well as red fox. But never a chance for a shot. I almost got a fox at 60 yards about 4 years ago. It was deer season and he ran under my stand (I never turned, because I thought it was a deer). I finally got him stopped (I just Yelles, "Hey") and I went right over him. I still see that shot in my mind. I wanted that fox so bad.
Yotes lured my dogs out over a snow drift that was higher than fence last Jan. Blast them! We got both sweet "guard dogs" back eventually.
Sorry Dex, 55 gr. Nosler ballistic tip getting pushed by 27 gr. of Varget. Load is a tad compressed. Distances were 160 to about 240.
I was going to say the same thing as Dex, that bottom one got tore up. Three at once! That's awesome. You must have already had the gun or magazing already loaded?
First, I will say I don't have children. The .223 stays out but is not loaded. I will also say it is a Remington 700 and I normally have a heck of a time loading it on the fly but not that time.
Had a 25-06 Remington 700 BDL Sendaro and still have a 700 BDL .270 The 700 series is a great all around high powered rifle. Most people can afford them and they shoot great. I have a buddy that recently bought a Remington 747 .243 (maybe 707? Heck that may even be off. It starts with a 7?) I don't remember the exact model #, but I do remember it was only like $390 with a cheap 3 x 9 x 45 mm on it. Thats not a bad price and it shot pretty well with a standard Remington core-lokt load. The gun felt a little cheaper, but for the price? It's hard to beat.
Mine is a 700 VLS. It has been to my gunsmith and I have shot .2" 5 shot groups with it and the load I mentioned above. So it is a no excuses gun. Only problem I ever have with it is loading it.
Thank goodness it is fed with a detachable magazine. I have a savage 110 bolt gun with the stupid internal magazine so you load the rifle and then unload the rifle one round at a time. My next rifle WILL have a detachable magazine.
No detachable magazine on mine, internal with a hinged floor plate to drop them out when unloading. I have a Ruger tang safety action on a built gun that loads and chambers beautifully but I have had issues with the 700 in .223. Honestly if the first coyote had been a little closer I would have grabbed my ar-15.
Yep, 1 in 12, Doesn't have a 26" barrel anymore. My gunsmith said shorter is stiffer and stiffer is more accurate. Which I knew and so had no problem with him doing it. So he took 4" off and recrowned the barrel. So it is now 22". His take was you are shooting a relatively fast burning powder and you will get diminishing returns from those last 4".
Yep, I agree and you can see the AR I use in the farm truck in the black rifle thread. Definitely the question AR or bolt gun went through my mind as I headed back to the house. I chose the bolt gun because of the distances involved and greater precision of the bolt gun and better optics. 2-7 vs 6-18. The AR killed a coyote earlier in the summer, but at 70 yards vs 160ish for the nearest coyote in this case.
