It goes like an old saying, "one man's trash, another man's treasure". I would like a find like that, while I have all the would I could ever want just a couple hundred feet away on my property, I'm not able to get to it. So no pit fires yet.
I must be doing it wrong. I just burn the chunkies and uglies with with the other stuff. Mostly as kindling, or stuffing in where a split won't fit, or some of the bigger chunks go on top when the fire dies down.
I did that for a while,its a great way to burn them. I just have way too much of it and needed to get rid of it.
They sell a lot less for more (up here) to the campers than that, you're giving them a great price. They sell a much small quantity for $5.00.
Thats what I was thinking. I just want to get rid of this stuff though, usually in that situation ill price it low enough that it sells fast so I dont have to wait around and mess with it.
If you can get $8 for the uglies doesn't that make you start thinking "what can I get for the pretty stuff?" Side note... $8 is a hard amount, I'd stick to $5 or $10 but maybe I am over-thinking this. I need to grab a bin for cook wood. As it is, I dig through the ugly pile, which is wobbly to start with. If you have the roadside traffic, I'd put up a little firewood stand for sure. Honor system/ lock box and make some beer money. A cord of bundles should net you $400 and that's with generous bundles as compared to the convenience store.
I try not to generate too many in the first place. I usually eyeball 16-18" lengths using my chainsaw bar, but if there's a couple extra inches left over, I'll leave it long, up to about 24". Any longer than that, and it's 2 really short pieces. My stove is wider than it is deep, so I can toss a couple lengthwise on top, parallel to the door, if I need to. I'm not quite 1.5 years into The Three Year Plan, so I really try not to 'waste' anything. Once I'm there, and my storage areas are all full, maybe I'll get pickier on the consistency.
We do have a lot of traffic, My wife has a vegetable stand that we make a few bucks on. Thats where I put the firewood box, we just have a big mason jar to put the money in. But my wife works from home so she is normally at home and can keep an eye on it.
Sean, somehow I can't get the picture out of my head. Some comes and sees the $5 or $8 and then puts crate and all in his pickup and away he goes! Well, hopefully he'd at least leave some dollars behind.
