Funny, they use a reed valve type engine in the video to explain what is typically a piston ported engine.... :p

Basic idea is the same tho....

For something with a bit of modern flair - A stratocharged two-stroke .....

    One thing to think about,
the fuel is pulled thru the engine,
2 cycles Use the oil in the fuel, for lubrication of all internal engine moving parts .
Don't short change the oil in your oil gas mix .

Tuned exhaust high performance 2 cycle engines use some of the exhaust
to up the performance. Notice snow machines exhaust are horn shaped, this is tuned for max performance.
Notice the exhaust on the little radio controlled airplane engines (2 cycle, tuned exhaust engines)
Venturi effect to pull out more exhaust then, if tuned properly, it uses some of the exhaust pressure to push some of the fuel & hot exhaust gas back in the cylinder just
before the piston goes up past the exhaust port. Improves the compression, air & fuel mixture.
    More RPM. They SCREAM!

I wonder how much those huge exhausts bump the power on those comp saws?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of reed valve vs ported piston 2 strokes?

If the engine is built for it, the tuned exhaust makes a big difference in power.

Reed valves add weight and one more moving part to a 2 stroke engine but eliminate any compromises made by using the piston skirt to control intake port timing. This may allow an engine designer to focus on the more critical transfer and exhaust port timing numbers.
