Neighbor came down yesterday to the log yard and said, Holy s#!t! You cut that whole pile !!! Then said , good lets get this cleaned up and we will smooth up the area....then we'll pull more down to cut. Then he wants to start stacking the tops up off the ground to save as much as we can for later. I don't think we can get it all cut. ok nuff foolin round here...gotta go cut
TurboDiesel i guess that fills your weekends for the rest of 2016. If that happened to me I probably wouldn't sleep for a week thinking about how much wood would be coming and what I could sacrifice to make more room for logs I don't mean to sound patronising but remember to take it easy and pace yourself, can you imagine how frustrating it'd be to get injured and miss out on the mother load just next door?!!
I have to Jim, lots of heart problems in our family. I do what I can, take a breather, then back at it. "This wood's not gonna cut itself" ..................
been thinking about this for months. My house sits on the back of the property and i like to keep the stacks hidden so it doesn't look like a junk yard. There isn't much more room to hide it behind the garage. Gonna have to start a firewood wall around the property.
Getting almost a cord of rounds a day cut and hauled over Don't know how much longer this little tin trailer will hold up. Broke a couple spot welds on the corners today hauling the big oak rounds. Stopped for repairs, then back to it Got pics before I started today. The guys helped Ruger got a good nights sleep last night Here he is this morning when I woke up. Laying on Mrs. TD's pillow after she left for work
That's going to look awesome, I've done a similar thing on a much much smaller scale lining sections of path with splits to make short walls. Congrat's on the score!
spot welds are the small holes next to the washers drilled and put 1/4" bolts with fender washers to pull it back together
Finding a whole lot of poplar in the log yard. Should I keep it or let it for someone else and hoard the better stuff? Never burned Poplar. Anyone have good results with it? It should dry quick and I could use it next year and for shoulder seasons. (saving the oak till 2018)
Yes, keep the poplar. It will dry fast and if you need shoulder wood for next year it will do the trick. It's right next door.
How big is the poplar? Bigger stuff will net you a lot of nice splits that should be straight and easy to stack.
I'd say the majority of the poplar is in the 11-18" range Everything in the log yard is 10-30" in diameter.
