Yes Mike. Northern Pike are legal by spear here November 15th through the end of the third weekend in February. It is a great way to pass some time during our long winters.

It happens inside a warm darkhouse. Mine is a lot like this one painted by Les Kuba.

She will be pressure canned for fish salad sandwiches and casseroles. I have good recipes for both!

Sometimes I do cut them into rounds with the skin on for brining and then smoking. I will probably save one big one later in the winter for the smoker.

Smoked sounds great! I love smoked fish. I've been bingeing lately on smoked mussels with lemon juice.

I made a start splitting the black birch, and stacking it where the cherry used to be. Nice straight wood, easy to split. IMG_20201230_26554.jpg

So I sit here with two gennys running. Boiler, computers and house heat on one. Fridge and washing machine on another. We woke up to heavy rains and wild winds so it was only a matter of time. I heard from Mom and her neighbour got her genny going as well so she has heat and lights. I haven't been able to hook up her wifi yet to the genny circuit so she doesn't have internet. No ferry running so we wouldn't have been able to get to her place. New Year's Day is supposed to look like this too I think.

    Everyone have a great afternoon.

    Good drizzly morning, folks.

Low 40's here. Rain should stop in a few hours.

No real plans here today, except to watch some of a 3Stooges marathon that begins at 8pm, amd runs for for 5hrs. Its something a local Boston channel has been doing for years, every New Years Eve.

I'll also be cooking up sme mac-n-cheese from scratch along with some sauted shrimp. Steamed broccoli will make the meal healthy.

Then, kiss 2020 good bye and good riddance.

Aside from burning, I have decided to cease all wooding activities, for the rest of the year.

    Stay safe
    Stay healthy.

Sad morning everyone, with the passing of Dennis's wife Judy. She was a warm and open hearted lady. Our friend Dennis has lost half of himself. I hope we can help him with his grief.

Good morning y'all. Hope y'all have a TREMENDOUS THURSDAY and Happy New Year's Eve. I'll be partying like a rock star, cooking dirt at work...:chef:...
Probably just bring in about 4 buckets of wood, might work in my shed a little, drizzle to light rain, don't have the canopy set up over the splitter.
Yes, sad day, keep Dennis and the boys in your thoughts.

Good morning folks. Yes usually go first to thought for the day or thoughts and prayers for those in need.
Not a lot planned for today but for sure will be doing a lot of praying for our brother and friend Dennis.
